Rotary Gossip Corner

Word is Fultzee has been brought back from the dead -- ask him about his Wednesday medical appointment...
The Nevada City Rotary Club's fair booth is being painted royal blue and gold (Rotary colors) and pP Ben Barretta says the booth will be shockingly bright...
How can I get in gossip about David Kenitzer when he edits out the stuff about him? [note to self: don't forget to remove!]
Ask Pearce Boyer about his wife's new job...
Nuggets o' gossip aren't filtering in as we had hoped. Could it be Fultzee's "fine you till you're bankrupt" policy has people keeping their mouth shut?
Did you know that Nancy Brost collects pineapples?
Tom Coleman's Bloody Mary's have won third place in The Union's "unscientific" poll of Best Bloodys in Nevada City...
Larry Undercoffer dropped his wallet, with all his credit cards, at a Roseville gas station. Wonder of wonders an honest man mailed it back to him, credit cards intact...
Who remembers when Broad Street furniture was Alpha Hardware?
If Jim Phillips decides to give up his lawyering job, the design editor at The Union thinks he has a good future as a photographer. His photos of Uganda were so outstanding that at least one of them will make it into The Union's special section on Uganda, due out in August. Considering Louise Ivy, a professional photographer, who also took photos, Jim should feel good that his were singled out as among the best...

Club News

Dark: We will be dark in the afternoon for the next two weeks (Aug 4 and 11). Next week (Aug 4), we will be having our Annual Fair Booth Picnic in the evening. Please bring your own plates, silveware, wine glasses, etc. Also, bring either a dessert or salad to go along with the pulled pork sandwiches. We will be awarding prizes for the best Mardi Gras table decorations. Wear your beads, but keep your shirts on please! There will also be a special award ceremony for our triumphant tug-of-war team!
GV Rotary BBQ: Tomorrow night (July 29) from 5:00 to 8:30, the Grass Valley Rotary Club is hosting their annual Community BBQ at the fairgrounds. Look for live entertainment, children's activities, fantastic raffle prizes, and (of course!) great fun and fellowship. Tickets are on sale at the gate: $15 adults, $7.50 ages 4-10, Free 3 & under.
Fair Booth: The Fair is quickly approaching: Aug 10 - 14. pP Ben Barretta is organizing a painting party this Saturday (July 30) in the afternoon, so they don't conflict with the Miners Foundry Project. Also, the fair booth shift sign-up sheet will be passed around at today's meeting.
Miners Foundry Window Project: On July 30 and Aug 6, a crew will be painting the new windows at the Miners Foundry. If you are able to paint from a ladder, then please sign-up on the sheet being passed around by Gary Gustafson at today's meeting.
Club Fines: Last week: $283.00 (including $100 from Fultzee for Perfect Attendance on July 7). Year-to-date: $465.
Weekly Attendance: Only five members need to make up by August 4 for our club to have a 100% day. They are: Pearce Boyer, Teresa Carrigan, Steve Fjeldsted, Eleanor Kenitzer, and George Rebane. Remember, attendance doesn't cost ... it pays! Every 100% day, Prez Fultzee will add $100 to our fine coffers, meaning less fines for you.

The Crown's Corner

I want to thank each member who returned the confidential survey last week. I am still chasing down a few who were not at the meeting or escaped without filling out the form. I’d like as close to 100% participation as possible. But the preliminary results are interesting and will help me serve our club in the months ahead.

Most Important, Fellowship, Fun, and Friends was most often mentioned as the things that you most like about our club. So let’s put “3-F” at the top of our list of goals this year. I’m wondering how you all might feel about devoting an entire meeting to fellowship? Give me your feedback.

The “gripes” were few and generally dealt with specific issues that will be fixed to improve the club. There was, however, some significant (3) negative feedback on my new draconian fining policy. Let me try to explain this policy:

  1. You will be not be fined more than you offer to donate.
  2. No heavy fines will be imposed without prior warning.
  3. The fines will used to award $200 Paul Harris credits each month to a member (or more) in the club for their service to Rotary.
  4. I hope to fine myself the most as you turn in 100% attendance each week.

I remind you all that our monthly Board meeting will be held next Monday at 5:30 PM in John Woodford’s conference room. It would be great to see some new faces, particularly the newer members. You will get a glimpse of how our club works. We try to run a short meeting and be on our way home by 6:30.
