Club News

Dark: We will be dark in the afternoon for the next two weeks (Aug 4 and 11). Tonight, we will be holding our Annual Fair Booth Picnic in the evening on Treat Street. Please bring your own plates, silveware, wine glasses, etc. Also, bring either a dessert or salad to go along with the pulled pork sandwiches. We will be awarding prizes for the best Mardi Gras table decorations. Wear your beads, but keep your shirts on please!
Fair Booth: The Fair is quickly approaching: Aug 10 - 14. The shift sign-up sheet will be passed around one last time at the picnic. Please be sure to fill in some of the holes! Also, pP Ben Barretta is organizing a clean-up party this Saturday (Aug 6). After re-painting the exterior last weekend, the booth still needs a little TLC inside.
Ore Cart Soccer Tournament: This weekend, teams from all over Northern California will be competing in our annual youth soccer tournament. If you'd like to volunteer to help (no soccer experience necessary), please talk to pP John Woodford.
Miners Foundry Window Project: Thanks to those that painted last week at Miners Foundry: Ben Barretta, Bonnie Murphey, Ed Townsend, Jim Ciaffoni, Cathy Wilcox-Barnes, John Woodford, Ellen Davis, and Gary Gustafson. We're told most of the paint got where it was supposed to, but Jim had to be reminded that his work was not subject to inspection!
Tug of War: Last Friday, our tug-of-war team tentatively placed 3rd at the Community BBQ presented by the GV Rotary Club. Thanks to Pearce Boyer, Jim Ciaffoni, Dave Fluke, Gary Gustafson, David Kenitzer, Bonnie Murphey, Jim Phillips, Ed & Mary Anne Townsend, and Fultzee's Granddaughter for tugging their hearts out. There are rumors, however, that some of the other teams had a little help from their friends (i.e. eleven people pulling on a 10-person team). Therefore, results are still pending an official investigation.
Club Fines: Last week: $250.00 (including $100 from Fultzee for Perfect Attendance on July 7). Year-to-date: $715.

The Crown's Corner

We held our second Board meeting last Monday, and with the exception of Nancy Kemp who called from Canada, all members were present. Eleanor Kenitzer also attended, making up for her absence at the July 21st meeting and assuring the club of 100% attendance for that week. It looks like we may have our first perfect attendance month. This may be a record for our club. Keep up the good work. Remember, its worth $100 toward the fine budget.

Highlight of the meeting was the selection of the Rotarian of the Month. The board could have easily selected any of three Rotarians mentioned. It will be my pleasure to award a $200 contribution to Ed Townsend's Paul Harris account. We will have more to say about Ed at our meeting on August 18th. It should be noted that Ed's team would have won the tug-of-war contest last Friday had the Grass Valley team played by the rules. Grass Valley (the host) put one extra person on their team to win two pulls against us. They did the same against the 49er club, but were caught in the act. A major protest is being drafted by our attorney and will be filed shortly.

I hope to see you all at the picnic Tonight. We will sample the new meat and buns selected by our booth "Chairman for Life" Ben Barretta.

With only eleven more months to serve you,
fultzee
