The Missing Bell

What Could Have Happened to Prez Fultzee's Missing Bell? See "Club News" for more information ...
The Crown's Corner

I hope you all had fun last week.

Not only did July's perfect attendance cost me $400, but now some jester has stole the Bell. While it is an established tradition to only steal the bell after the meeting is called to order, this sneaky thief grabbed the bell before the meeting. That is on par with selling recaps as new tires. A suitable reward has been offered in hopes that at least one Rotarian will remember the Four Way test and turn in this cheating, no-good scoundrel.

There are only two spots left at our table at the Rotary International President's Dinner on September 24th in Sacramento. Together at the table will be Myself, Pearce Boyer, Sandra Brown, John & Carla Burke, John Hensley, Nancy Kemp and David Keniter. Cost is $50 a head. This is a great chance to mingle with the leaders of Rotary. As I mentioned last week, our "On to Uganda" video, narrated by our own JoAnne Conley, will be featured at the Zone Institute prior to the dinner. A reception begins at 6PM at the West lobby of the Sacramento Convention Center, followed by a salmon dinner in the Hyatt Hotel at 7PM. Deliver your checks or unmarked bills to me; I have already made reservations for 10 on my credit card to get 500 miles toward Uganda next year.

The second very important date for your calender is November 2nd, when our club is in charge of organizing the Area IV Rotary Foundation Dinner. The dinner will be held at the Nevada City Elks Lodge. Recognition will be given to all members receiving their first or multiple Paul Harris Awards. Also being recognized are members of the Paul Harris Society for their commitment of $1,000 a year to the Foundation. Our club is a leader in the Area in both categories, and we hope to encourage the other clubs to follow our lead. Speaking at the Foundation will be Al Frumpkin, a very popular speaker on the Rotary Circuit. As a lawyer, he professes to know every lawyer joke ever uttered. Try to bring an obscure joke to trip him up ... or better yet make up a new one (Larry Undercoffer).

Squeezed between these two dates is an important semi-Rotary event. On October 2nd, greet the Kellermanns and hear how the x-ray and container have saved lives in Uganda. See me for more details.

Remember: "The Rack" awaits any rebellious subjects. The bell had better be back!!!

Club News

Where's the Bell?: Before last week's meeting even came to order, The Bell was stolen for the first time during Prez Fultzee's term. Some witnesses reported hearing the kidnapper claim Prez Fultzee was just getting lazy: "His granddaughters weren't here to protect it this week!" The Rotario has exclusive pictures taken of the "hostage" submitted by an anonymous source (see The Crown's Corner).
Ore Cart Soccer Tournament: About 40 teams and 1,500 players / parents came to Nevada County for this year's 3rd annual soccer tournament. Thanks to pP John Woodford for organizing another successful year!
RI President Dinner: Rotary International President Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar will be speaking at the Zone Institute's dinner on Sep 24 at the Hyatt Regency in Sacramento. There are only two more spots remaining at Prez Fultzee's table ...
Weekly Attendance: Only one member needs to make up by September 1 for our club to have a 100% day: Ron Knaus. Remember, attendance doesn't cost ... it pays! Every 100% day, Prez Fultzee will add $100 to our fine coffers, meaning less fines for you.
