The Crown's Corner

Hats (or crowns) off to the Radio Auction Committee. Now, the ball is in our court. It will just take a little more effort on our part to make this the best auction yet.

The 8-page circular in The Union is going to focus a lot of community attention on our club and the work we are doing for the youth of Nevada County. My thanks to each of you who have agreed to sponsor this circular through your advertising.

We can purchase additional copies of the circular for $35 per thousand. They will be printed the week before the auction and could be distributed around the community to supplement the 17,000 circulation of The Union. It would be a good idea to spread them around your donors. Let Stacy Drake know if you want some of the reprints.

It seems that the year has just started. Yet, it is time to start preparing for 2006-07. David "Kidd" Kenitzer has already made his reservations for PETS (President Elect Training Seminar).

Then, the District Assembly rolls around on April 8th. This is a must attend for all incoming officers and board members. It's also a great place for new members to get an overview of Rotary. It will be held this year at the Nugget in Sparks. The club pays for the cost of all members attending.

Then on May 5-7 is the District Conference also at the Nugget. DG Dave has lined up an outstanding program. Just put it on you calendar. This is where are club will pick-up the honors for being the best club in the district. Don't miss it!!!

Drew Reynolds Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship was established in the memory of Drew Reynolds. When Drew was killed in an automobile accident two years ago, he had been going to college classes part-time for nine years, while working full-time at UPS and raising a young family. He was expecting to obtain a Computer Science degree from University of Phoenix the year he died.

The scholarship is awarded to a Nevada County resident seeking a college degree at one of the Sierra College campuses. To be eligible, the person must be living with dependents, must be enrolled in at least two classes, and must have good grades. Once awarded, the recipient can renew for the scholarship for up to four years.

Last week, Lore Reynolds Hamilton (Drew's wife) presented Kerri Fulton (last year's recipient) with the second year of her $2,000 renewable scholarship. The Union had a wonderful article about the presentation.
