  The Crown's Corner

Just two more weeks until the deadline for turning in your Radio Auction items: March 10. We all need to take a few hours to roundup more donors for this major fundraiser. As of yesterday, Nicole Oros is leading the club with more than $3,500 in donated items. Eight other members have brought in more than $1,000. They include Fred Heauser (who isn't even in town!), Jeff Wenzel, Pete Brost, Bob Buhlis, Ed Townsend, John Taylor, Harvey Diemer and yours truly. As of yesterday morning, we had $23,820 worth of items on the website. We will need between $30-40,000 to meet our budget for youth activities. If you haven't done so, take a look at our website and see all the great items donated to-date.

My thanks to George Rebane and Bob Buhlis for stepping forward last week to present their "Craft Talks" with less than a minute's warning. I had a hard time finishing my lunch after George told us about his trained "Killer Dolphins" in Vietnam. Bob's "fourth career" (raising great kids) was an inspiration. If everyone took the "career" of raising kids as seriously as Bob did, we would have far less problems in our nation.

In the meantime, Program Chairman Harvey Diemer, solved the mystery of our missing speaker. It seems that an email was lost in cyberspace (something like my dog ate my homework). Please make a point of telling Harvey how much you have enjoyed his programs this year. As many of you know, I visit other clubs in the area on a regular basis to steal ideas. Our programs are always tops in the area.

It is nearing the deadline for making our reservation for District Assembly at the Reno Hilton on April 8th. This is a must for all new directors and officers, and I strongly recommend that newer members take the day to get an overview of how Rotary operates around the District and the world. The club is picking up the tab for the meeting. Most of you can carpool up in the morning and start home by early afternoon. That evening is a special dinner for members of the Paul Harris Society, and I am hoping that most of our members to this prestigious organizations will be able to make it. We have the largest contingent in the district and I hope that other clubs will be challenged by our club's success.

Let Bonnie or Kim know if you are planning on attending, so that we can make the reservations. By the way, my forecast is for clear roads, so no excuses!!

  Club News

Flag Display: The club has a new display for the many flags / banners that members have brought back from Rotary clubs all over the world. Since we haven't had anything to display them on, they seem to be scattered and stored hither and yon. If you have any around, please bring them to the meetings and give them to JoAnne Conley. She is attaching them to the new display that was unveiled at last week's meeting.
9th Annual Radio Auction: This year's Radio Auction is coming up on March 25 and will be broadcast over KNCO 830AM from 9:00am until 2:00pm. To make submitting items easier for the members, the Committee has setup a fax line: (530) 687-9717. Once you have the "Item Donation Form" filled out, you can either fax it or bring it to the regular club meetings. The Radio Auction Committee is also excited about the tabloid-sized circular that will be inserted into The Union on March 20. This will not only list all of the items of $100 or higher, but will also include stories and pictures about our club's service in the community.
