The Crown's Corner

I learned a good lesson last week that I felt I should pass on to my subjects...

Don't Procrastinate. But if you do, have a backup.

All the newspaper copy for our 8-page Radio Auction Circular was due Tuesday. And I put off getting started until late last week, which gave me plenty of time to finish. Except I hadn't planned on being sick for three days. I still had time, but then wife Georgann caught my bug and I was out of circulation until Wednesday morning.

But all is well, thanks to several of your fellow Rotarians that picked up the ball. By early Wednesday morning, they had finished the rest of the stories, rounded up the missing photos and saved my bacon. So my thanks goes to "Kidd" Kenitzer, Nancy Kemp, Jeff Wenzel, Sandra Brown, Steve Fjeldsted, Dixie Redfearn, George Rebane, and probably two or three more that my sleep deprived brain has forgotten. They have done a great job and I think that you will all be proud of the image this circular will give our club. Special thanks to new member Stacy Drake for helping pull all of the pieces together.

Well "Kidd's" year is off to a great start. After a weekend of Presidents-Elect Training Seminar (PETS), he has big plans for our club next year. He is off to a great start with over 15 of our members signed up for the District Assembly April 8th at the Reno Hilton. Today, he will start the push for attendance at the District Conference on May 5-7 at the Sparks Nugget. Our club is in-line to receive a number of awards and I would like to see a big turnout to celebrate the great year that you all have helped accomplish.

  Club News

District Assembly: A sign-up sheet will be passed around for the last time at today's meeting for this year's Assembly. It will be held at the Reno Hilton on April 8. The club will pay the registration fee, which includes a continental breakfast, lunch, and session materials. Sessions are from 8:00 AM until noon with "Rotary 101" immediately following the noon lunch. The Hilton is holding a block of rooms with a special rate of $89 for Rotarians. If you want to stay on Friday night, call the Reno Hilton at 800-648-5080.
Radio Auction Items: The cut-off time for Radio Auction items to be included in The Union's tabloid-sized circular is 12:00 PM on Friday, March 10th (tomorrow!). Please either hand them in at today's meeting or fax them to (530) 687-9717. All items turned in after this time will still be sold in the auction and will be listed on the website, but they will not be listed in the circular. The cut-off time for all items is 12:00 PM on Friday, March 17th. Items turned in after this time will risk not be included in the auction at all!
Fireside Chat: pP Kim Stewart and PE David Kenitzer are organizing a fireside chat for newer Rotarians on Wednesday, March 15th. This 1-1/2 hr session will give an overview to Rotary, our club, and the service projects that we work on throughout the year. If you'd like to attend, please contact Kim or David.
Radio Auction Dry-Run: For those of you helping setup for the auction and/or helping perform the dry run, TeleStream's building won't be available until Friday, March 24 at 3:00 PM to begin setting up for the auction. We'll perform the dry-run at 6:00 PM.
It's a Boy!!!: Speaking of pP Kim Stewart, she is expecting another boy sometime in July and is looking for another proper Celtic name to match Colin. If you can think of some more names, let her know...
9th Annual Radio Auction: This year's Radio Auction is coming up on March 25 and will be broadcast over KNCO 830AM from 9:00am until 2:00pm. Once you have the "Item Donation Form" filled out, you can either fax it or bring it to the regular club meetings. The Radio Auction Committee is also excited about the tabloid-sized circular that will be inserted into The Union on March 20. This will not only list all of the items of $100 or higher, but will also include stories and pictures about our club's service in the community.
