The Crown's Corner

Monday was the next to last board meeting of the year. Next month the new and old board members will have a joint meeting to turn the reins over to the new and much younger leadership. Your committee chairs are wrapping up their projects and it looks like 99% of our goals will be accomplished by year end next month.

We are just a little behind on our fines, but I promise to catch up before June 30. It would make my life easier if you would just mail the checks. But I doubt that there will be any takers.

Remember, $200 of the fines are returned each month to the Paul Harris account of the board's pick as "Rotarian of the Month". Most months, I wish that it could be "Rotarians of the Month" because so many of you have worked so hard to make this a very successful year.

Many of us will go to the District Conference this weekend, where we hope to bring back many awards for your club. It really isn't too late to come up for the grand finale Sunday morning at The Nugget. Just let the "Kidd" know and he will buy the tickets. the board has authorized up to $85 reimbursement toward any member's conference expenses,

Club News

District Conference: The District Conference is this weekend! Our district's annual extravaganza will be held May 5-7 at John Ascuaga’s Nugget in Sparks, NV. It's not too late to join us -- just let "Kidd" Kenitzer know!
Message From DG Dave: During my visits, I talked about expanding our circle of Rotary friends. Possibly, the easiest way to do that is by participating in the District Conference. Just by hanging around the Club Displays, it is so easy to strike up a conversation with other Rotarians. We will be making it even easier by putting the displays in the House of Friendship. There will be places to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea. While the annual Speech Contest has been generating large crowds each year to hear the outstanding young speakers in our district, the relatively new Music Contest has quickly generated its own following. Arrive early at both contests to make sure you have a place to sit. If you were impressed with your local contest, multiply that by 11 areas who have all picked their best contestants. This is great opportunity to support our young people. The official luncheon kickoff will feature one of the most amazing speakers you will ever hear. Kim Peek, a mega savant, will astound you with his mastery of facts. You will also find that he has a great sense humor. Copies of the book, The Real Rain Man, will be on sale following the luncheon.
Area Rotary Tab: Prez Fultzee has been hard at work putting together the annual Rotary tab that promotes the five area clubs. Look for it to be inserted in The Union on May 18.
