The Crown's Corner

Our club had more members and partners at last weekend's District Conference than any other club, including the big clubs in Reno! We had 21 attend, including two members of our Interact Club. As your President, I was very proud of our club -- "The Original Nevada City Rotary Club."

We walked away Sunday with more awards than any other medium sized club. Best of all, we were named the Club of Excellence in our class.

The photo shows our group, less our two interacters, poised in front of our outstanding display. These happy people include .... ( please list I don't have the photo before me). They just came from the awards ceremony and are showing off the six awards for: Membership Gain, Club Attendance, International Project of the Year, Foundation Annual Giving, International Service and Club of Excellence. Amid cries of "We Wuz Robbed", our club display won a Second Place ribbon. I have asked Ed Townsend to bring the banners that were part of our display. Ed and his designer, Amy, took a handful of photos and created a great story of our club's many projects last year. I really thought, unbiased as I am, that we won. But as the 49ers say, " Wait until next year." The Kidd already is making plans to bring home the blue ribbon next May.

Again, I want to thank our secretary, Kim Stewart, for preparing the booklet submitted to the Awards Committee. I am hoping that she may accept the title "Awards Chairperson for Life". Her presentation had a lot to do with the awards we won.

And while I am thanking folks, I have special kudos for soon-to-be President-Elect Nancy Kemp. This week, I heard people at the district level talking about the great job she is doing with our Interact Club, RYLA and RYE. I know that her husband, Steve Allen, was hoping to get his wife back when Nancy retired. But Rotary needs her energy right now to keep our focus on the youth in our community.

Our club is winning the respect of Rotarians throughout the district. But more importantly, the competition im roves all the clubs and the Rotary projects in all of the clubs. [Editor's Note: I have no idea what Don was trying to say here!]

I thank each of you for being part of this winning team.

Club News

Rotary Youth Exchange: The outbound RYE student that we are sponsoring, Kayla Kenny, will be visiting today with her mother, Lory. She will be leaving for Australia in about a month.
Area Rotary Tab: Prez Fultzee has been hard at work putting together the annual Rotary tab that promotes the five area clubs. Look for it to be inserted in The Union on May 18.
