Today's Union includes a 24-page insert about
Rotary in Western Nevada County. I want to make sure that we all use
this tabloid to tell our friends and family about the outstanding record
of all five of the Area Four Rotary Clubs (but especially
our club - the original Nevada City Rotary Club). We can use
this tool to bring more members and fresh ideas to Rotary. We could
all use some help during the Radio Auction or Fair
Booth.
Take a good look at the efforts and leadership being provided to our
club from our most recent members. If us "old-timers" are
ever going go out to pasture, we need to replace ourselves first.
Also, make sure that we continue to thank all the members of The
Union family for continuing to support Rotary in our community.
Special thanks to Dixie Redfearn and
Stacy Drake. And while I am thanking people, Jim
Moss is always an easy guy to work with as he pulls the ads
together. This year I made a special friend -- Linda Murphy
picked up the scattered pieces and photos that I e-mailed (some at the
last minute) and used her imagination to produce a stunning supplement.
This year's edition has far more photos of Rotarians at-work than any
previous effort. And... she is already talking about ways to improve
it next year. And it never hurts to kiss up to Publisher Jeff
Ackerman. Let him know that we don't take them for granted.
Maybe next year i can get him to go 100% color.
There are very few Rotary Clubs in the world with the support we get
each year from our local newspaper. Think about the support they give
to our Radio Auction. Remember that they sent reporters
and photographers along on our Rotary Projects in Uganda
and New Orleans. I don't know of another newspaper
in California that does more for Rotary. As most of you know, I was
an Advertising/PR flack in my former life, before I decided to pave
and develop all the open space in Santa Cruz County. So I have lots
of contacts with newspapers, small and large. Ours is a winner.
While you are doing favors, tell a few people about the "Back
to Uganda" trip I am leading from August 6-24.
I have a doctor, dentist and nurse going, but could use more unskilled
labor to help us install the equipment in the new surgery wing. Also,
since we may have representation from Rotary International along, I'd
like to see a few more Rotary pins in the group. As a further incentive,
I planned the trip to avoid the Fair Food Booth this
year. I expect that "Chairman for Life" Ben Barretta
will have more to say about this later.
His Highness, Bwana fultzee
PS: My congratulations to whoever stole the bell last week. It was
a legal "steal" unlike the previous theft. I will try to repay
in kind this week.
