To begin with, I want to thank PE Nancy Kemp
for organizing our club at last week's Children's Festival.
More often than not, the hardest job is assembling the troops
for any project. I'm sure Nancy will give a full report at today's
meeting, including listing the other volunteers from our club.
The Festival is an annual Renaissance Faire for kids set in
Pioneer Park. It really is a wonderful event
and is a (more than) 20 year tradition. There
were over 20 arts & crafts tables, as well as jugglers,
storytellers, and wandering musicians. And all of this for only
a $2 admission! Our club plays an integral
role in sponsoring the event. Not only do we send volunteers
to help setup the park (ask me about moving about 20 picnic
tables!), work during the two shifts, and clean-up after
the event. But the event wouldn't happen without the Club allowing
them to use our insurance for the day.
I also want to congratulate pP Fultzee for
"officially" receiving the 2005-2006 Presidential
Citation. We were honored to have PDG Dave
Bianchi at our meeting last week to surprise Don with
the certificate. In fact, Don was so surprised, that he wasn't
even planning to come to our meeting (by the way, Fultzee,
how did the Astronomy test go?). I can only hope we can
have as successful of a year as Fultzee did last year...
Harvey Diemer, our past Programs Chair, really
outdid himself this week by putting not one, but two
excellent programs for us today. Gail LaBrie
is the organizer of the Nevada County Chernobyl Children's
Project. Although they already had their fairwell party
last weekend, two of the children will be here to talk to us.
Also, Cathy Anderson-Meyers will discussing
this year's Barbara Schmidt Millar Celebration of Life
Triathlon. I'm told that Stacy Hart
is organizing a team (or more!) from our club. But
I'm sure we'll hear more about it today.
Finally, I want to remind all of you that next week's
meeting will be moved to the Nevada County
Fairgrounds in the evening for our
annual Fair Picnic. This year's fair theme
is Wild About Ewe, so our table decorating
contest will also use the same theme (a tad bit harder than
last year's Mardi Gras theme). Dinner starts at 6pm,
but feel free to show up earlier for fellowship. Ben
Barretta will give us more details at today's meeting.
In Service Above Self,
David "Kidd" Kenitzer
