After a grueling week of working at the Fair Booth,
today's program will be much more light-hearted than normal.
Larry Undercoffer has volunteered to do a "joke
off" with everyone attending today's meeting. Since he
is The Original King of Comedy, I'm giving you plenty
of notice to come up with your own jokes. And yes, if you're
"comically challenged" (Eric!), you can simply
read the jokes. But please keep them clean,
since there will be a couple of students coming to accept their
scholarships! We wouldn't want to corrupt anyone...
Thanks to those of you that worked at the Fair Booth
last week. It's always difficult to staff the booth from 10am
until 11pm all five days of the Nevada
County Fair. But somehow we always manage to pull it together.
I also want to especially thank those of you that worked multiple
shifts. We always have holes in the schedule, so you certainly
help patch them up quickly.
A very special thanks also goes out to the Day Captains: Ellen
Davis, John Woodford, and Eleanor
Kenitzer. It is through their leadership that each
day all of the Rotarians knew what to do, how to do it, and
not to panic when something inevitably goes wrong.
However, I owe a special debt to Ben Barretta,
who has done an excellent job of chairing this event for four
years running. He organized everyone for the entire event, ordered
all of the food and supplies, and even acted a Day Captain on
Wednesday. Although Ben has volunteered to help again next year,
we will be looking for someone else to take the reigns next
year.
Because of everyone's hard work and teamwork, our booth won
the Staff's Choice for Best Food Booth
for Thursday! We're still running the numbers right now, but
I'll let all of you know how we "faired" when we're
done.
