We will have some very special guests visiting today all the
way from Nepal: Moni Mulepati
and Pem Dorjee Sherpa. On Friday evening (August
25), they will be presenting a program on The
Rotary Centennial Climb to the Summit of Mt Everest,
which is sponsored by the five Area 4 Rotary Clubs.
This event will be at the Nevada Theatre in Downtown Nevada
City and will start at 7:30pm. Admission is free
and seating is on a first-come-first-seated basis, so I would
suggest arriving at 7:00pm when the doors open.
Moni Mulepati and Pem Dorjee Sherpa are both members of Rotaract,
so the Area 4 Rotary Clubs are using this event
to kick-off the push to form our own community-based Rotaract
club. Everyone is welcome to attend, but if you know any young
adults (aged 19-30) who are interested in community service,
please encourage them to attend this special event. For more
information, check out the flyer.
Our Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) student, Xavi,
arrived late last Wednesday night (August 16) from Barcelona,
Spain and started school at Nevada Union High
School this week. PE Nancy Kemp (who
is one of his host families) hopes all of you will be able to
meet him soon. As soon as he gets a break from his studies,
she'll bring him to a meeting as our guest.
Also on Friday, be sure to listen to On the Town
on KNCO 830AM from 12:30pm to 1:00pm. Once
a month (I think it's the the 4th Friday of each month,
but don't hold me to that!), representatives from two Rotary
Clubs from the area talk about upcoming fundraisers, community
projects, Rotary in general, etc. This month, the two Nevada
City clubs (yes, believe it or not, there is another club
in Nevada City!) have the privilege to be interviewed.
President John Paul of the 49er Club will most
certainly be talking about the upcoming Duck Race
(you have bought tickets by now, right?!). But who
the heck knows what our club will talk about...
