On Sunday morning, several
NC Rotarians participated in the Barbara Schmidt Millar
Celebration of Life Triathlon. Our Club was represented
by Nancy Kemp, Carolyn Ingles,
and Mary Ann Boyer performing as a team to
swim, bike, and run. However, I'm told Ed Townsend could
also be seen paddling around in his kayak helping swimmers across
Scotts Flat Lake.
On Sunday evening, Rotarians made quite the
showing at the Kellermann Foundation Dinner.
Other than Dr Scott Kellermann and his wife
Carol, another special guest of honor was in
attendance: RI Vice-President Jerry Hall. Thanks
to Terry and Mary Ann Boyer,
Ellen Davis, Gary Gustafson,
Kent Kadera, Eleanor Kenitzer,
Bonnie Murphey, Nicole Oros,
and Eric Trygg for volunteering to help setup,
serve, and tear down the entire event. Our club represented
about half of the volunteers!
And while the Radio Auction Committee had
a kick-off meeting on Monday to talk about
the 2007 fundraiser (yes, they're already meeting, even
though it's about six months away!), I got to drive around
a go-cart to raise money for The Friendship Club
at The Friendship 100. Although I did not bring
home the coveted Rotary Presidents Race trophy,
I truly lived up to Rotary’s motto of Service
Above Self by sacrificing my comfortable 2nd-place
position to try to take out the leading go-cart! The important
thing is that because of the generous sponsorships from folks
in our club (as well as co-workers), I was able to
raise over $2,000 for The Friendship Club!
Thanks for all of your help...
In Service Above Self...
