For a club president, it's always nice to see a full house
during the annual DG Visit. Thank you to everyone for greeting
District Governor Bob Dorr at last week's meeting.
DG Bob gave an informative and thought-provoking presentation
about Rotary's past, present, and future. He challenged all
of us to come up with ways to keep Rotary relevant in our local
community as well as the world community.
Each year, the Quiet Rotarian award is presented
by the District Governor to a member of the Club who works diligently
behind-the-scenes. This year, the honor went to Ed Townsend
for epitomizing Rotary's motto of Service Above Self
by working on projects tirelessly, always following through,
and volunteering with a smile on his face. Thanks, Ed, for all
your hard work!
This year's Foundation Dinner is only two
weeks away! If you want to be recognized for a Paul Harris,
please be sure to turn in your contributions to Foundation Chair
Shirl Mendonca as soon as possible. Even if
you're not expecting to receive a Paul Harris award, a wonderful
event has certainly been planned. Marion Bunch,
the Executive Director of Rotarians for Fighting AIDS
(a Rotary Action Group), and Dr Scott Kellermann
will both be speaking about their inspiring work in Africa.
For those of you who are just interested in the food, I'm told
the three-course meal includes wonderfully gourmet menu items,
such as your choice of Sautéed Seabass,
Braised Meyer’s Chuck Roast, or Free
Range Chicken Galantine. The cost is $40 per person
(which has finally been confirmed!) and is at
the Miners Foundry. Although you can send back
your fancy RSVPs, we will be sending around a sign-up sheet
at today's meeting to get a head count.
Finally, don't forget about the Party Hearty
event on Friday, November 10. All of us are
expected to sell $20 worth of tickets to benefit Sierra
Services for the Blind. More details can be found in
the "Club News" section.
