The Kidd's Comments

Well... long time no "Comments"!

After a 4-week hiatus, I finally have the chance to write in this column again. In my defense, I can only blame the 8-lb "chubster" pictured to the right for my slacking (and don't worry -- I won't turn the Rotario into my personal baby picture album).

To recap this lost time, I'll start with the Area 4 Foundation Dinner. On November 9, ten of our fellow NC Rotarians (and their family members) were recognized for obtaining a Paul Harris this year, including Bob Aydelott (1st), Carolyn Inglis (1st), Cathy Wilcox-Barnes (1st), Stacie Hart (2nd), Jo Ann Rebane (2nd), me (#4), George Rebane (#5), Ralph Sawvell (#6), and Dave Denney (RI stops reporting after 10!). At this event, not only did I get to introduce my newborn to the "joy of Rotary", but I also had the honor of "presenting" him as one of the youngest Paul Harris Fellows (I think that fits the 4-Way Test, since he was only 12 days old!). I would be remiss not to thank PE Nancy Kemp for helping to present our club's awards, Foundation Chair Shirl Mendonca for organizing the awards beforehand, and the 49er Club for hosting the entire event.

On the next evening (November 10), we held our annual Party Hearty with Jimmi Accardi. This year, we changed venues by moving the event to the Miners Foundry. However, we brought back Jimmi Accardi and the Wildcats to "rock the house" and presented all of the proceeds to Sierra Services for the Blind. Thanks to the Party Hearty Committee for organizing the event, as well as to all NC Rotarians that volunteered to make it all happen!

Finally, I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving last week. And now that we're rolling into December, don't forget about our club's Christmas Party on Saturday evening! As always, it should be a fun time...

In Service Above Self,
President David "The Kidd" Kenitzer

  Club News

Christmas Party: This year's Christmas Party is this Saturday (December 2) at the Odd Fellows Lodge. Appetizers start at 6:30pm; dinner starts at 7pm; DJ playing all styles of music starts after dinner. If you have not RSVP'd yet, please do so before 2pm today!
Bell Ringing: Volunteers are needed to ring the bell for the Salvation Army. One-hour shifts are available from 11am to 6pm on December 8 in front of SPD (Nevada City) and on December 9 in front of Rite Aid (Grass Valley). A sign-up sheet will passed around at today's meeting.
Women of Worth: The Bear River Interact Club will help restock the Women of Worth emergency food pantry by collecting donated items in front of the Grass Valley SPD starting at 9am on Saturday. The pantry is used to assist those escaping domestic violence.
The Christmas Card: Set your Tivo's! The Chritmas Card (a movie filmed in Nevada City) will be premiering on the Hallmark Channel on Saturday (December 2) at 9pm and 11pm. But if you miss it (since you'll obviously be at the Christmas Party, right?!), it's showing again on Thursday, December 7 at 9pm and on Christmas Day at 7pm.
