Only 51 Days Until The Radio Auction!
On Saturday night, I attended the Nevada City Chamber Installation
Dinner to present one of the evening's awards: 2006
Business Person of the Year. This is an award that
is sponsored by our Club and the Nevada City Chamber.
Every year since 1999, we have presented this award to a local
business person who exemplifies the ethical ideals of the Four-Way
Test as well as Rotary's motto of Service Above
Self. What's really exciting is that this is the only
award presented at the Installation Dinner that is a surprise
to not only most of the guests, but also the recipient.
I was proud to present Thomas A Coleman with
this year's award. In addition to being a downtown business
owner for almost 40 years, he has served the people of Nevada
City in numerous capacities -- by being a member of the Grand
Jury, the County Transportation Commission, and the City Planning
Commission. As a volunteer, he has served many local organizations
-- by being a long-time member of our Club, being the Exalted
Ruler of the Elks, and serving multiple terms on the Chamber
Board (in fact, he was at the dinner on Saturday night to
be installed for yet another term on the Board).
Those of you who know him well also know that he can be outspoken
(to say the least!) when he feels strongly about something.
And while you may not always see eye to eye, his dealings are
always “above board”, respectful, and diplomatic.
I am sure you agree that his service and behavior certainly
meet the Four-Way Test, while his contributions to Nevada City
and its surrounding communities exemplify “Service Above
Self”. That's why it was such a pleasure to present him
with this year's award. Please congratulate him the next time
you see him!
In Service Above Self,
President David "The Kidd" Kenitzer
