I hope that nobody minded that the Rotario editor
decided to take a two-week hiatus. In high school and college,
my condition would be referred to as "senioritis",
which most graduating seniors have this time of year as well.
Maybe it should be called "presidentitis"? Whatever
it is, I'm just itching to add the "Past" to my official
title (and remove the "Elect" from Nancy Kemp's
title).
However, I still have two more big events before I can do that.
Although I have to wait until late June for one (the Demotion
Party), the "beginning of the end" is this upcoming
weekend at the District Conference.
The Conference is considered to be the "Year End"
party. It's the time when we get to summarize the Rotary year,
pat ourselves on the backs, and (quite frankly) unwind
a little. Each year, I look forward to the speakers
who inspire us during each meal, as well as the final Speech
and Music Contests.
But the entire event culminates on Sunday morning's Gin
Fizz celebration. There's a somber time when each club
president in the district recognizes those Rotarians who have
passed on during the year (thankfully, I don't get to participate
this year!). This is also when all of the awards are presented
to the various clubs (I'm crossing my fingers!). And
of course, it ends with the incoming District Governor (Vic
Slaughter) speaking about the upcoming Rotary year and the march
of the Incoming Presidents.
Speaking of Nancy, she had a great turnout for the District
Assembly on Saturday, April 14 at the Grand Sierra
Resort in Reno. The Assembly is the flip-side to the Conference.
It's a half-day event with various workshops to prepare next
year's club leadership. The sessions are always educational
with just enough of a "kick" to motivate you for next
year. Ahhhhhh.... next year.......
