The Kidd's Comments

Wow, what a weekend for Area 4!

At last weekend's District Conference, the five Rotary clubs in our area brought home a total of 16 District Awards as well as 3 Presidential Citations. While our clubs represent only 10% of the clubs in the District, this represents 36% of the total awards handed out at the event.

And NC Rotary certainly did our part as well! Honestly, I started Sunday morning hoping we'd at least win one award (especially after all of the midnight oil poured into the Call for Recognition packet). Instead, I was pleasantly surprised when our name was called FIVE times. This includes winning awards for Community Service, International Service Project, Vocational Service Project, Club Bulletin, and the coveted Club of Excellence!

Although I had the pleasure of representing our club at the Fizzarama to accept the awards, I want to thank ALL OF YOU for helping to make the Nevada City Rotary Club so excellent! Special thanks to PE Nancy Kemp, pP Don Fultz & Georgann, Pete & Nancy Brost, Eleanor Kenitzer, and Cathy Wilcox-Barnes for attending.

But that's not all. pP Fultzee received an exceptional award on Saturday night: the Rotary International Service Above Self Award. The purpose of this award is to recognize individual Rotarians who have demonstrated exemplary humanitarian service with an emphasis on personal volunteer efforts and active involvement in helping others through Rotary. This is RI's highest honor for individual Rotarians with a maximum of 150 recipients chosen each year. Congratulations, Fultzee!

Nevada County Rotaract Club: Do you know a young adult (aged 18-30) who believes in "Service Above Self", but may not be able to become a Rotarian? Rotaract might be perfect for him or her! The five Rotary clubs in our area are forming a community-based Rotaract club in Nevada County. There will be a Kick-Off Meeting on Thursday, May 24 at the Holbrooke Hotel from 5:30 - 7:00pm. The President of the recently-formed Reno Rotaract Club, Rebecca Gasca, will be there to answer questions and to get the potential members pumped up!
