Our meeting of 7/12 contained many moments
of sharing (
our new Rotary Year Theme: "Rotary Shares").
Our
Assistant Governor Pamela Yazell shared greetings
from our
District Governor Vic Slaughter and
explained that our new
RI President Wilf Wilkinson
has two major areas of focus: Membership and the Foundation. In
North America, several Membership Seminars will take place with
Wilf in attendance. Our
Membership Chair Eric Trygg
will attend the seminar in August in San Jose. Pamela also awarded
pP David Kenitzer his
Paul Harris Society
Pin, and explained that David joined the Society with an automated
monthly giving of
$84.00 per month.
We had the honor of inducting our newest member Scott
Scirpo (Classification: Insurance). Scott
is married with two children, loves to go camping and is active
in his church. Scott has immediately gotten involved in our
club by signing up for a Fair Booth shift and
a shift at the Children’s Festival. Way
to go, Scott!! We have decided to do away with the Red
New Member Ribbon, so you will not recognize Scott by that.
But if you see an unfamiliar Gen X'er, it is probably Scott,
so invite him to sit at your table and welcome him warmly.
Speaking of the Fair Booth, shifts are still
available on the Sunday, August 14th shift.
Joe Tomkiewicz, Fair Booth Co-Chair with
pP Ben Barretta, is not taking it personally that only
one person has signed up for Sunday, since that is Joe’s
shift. Remember that the Fair Booth is one of our important
fundraisers, so we need all the club involvement we can get!
Please sign up for two shifts and give of your
time on Sunday too! And make sure you have August 2nd,
6PM on your calendars for the Fair
Booth Picnic at the Fairgrounds; families and guests
welcomed. Don’t miss it.
Two of our newest members gave Craft Talks.
We were interested to learn that Joe Tomkiewicz
has progressed from chasing garbage trucks while still in diapers
to a Stanford grad with a thriving investment business. Laura
Crookston has also progressed from a single mom working
in the casino business to a successful audiologist who is happily
married and expecting her second son in November. Thanks to
Joe and Laura for sharing a little of their stories with us.
And another reminder that July 31st is the
deadline for our submission of a Group Study Exchange
(GSE) candidate. An application form and brochure will be available
at our next meeting for you to share with a young adult (25-40)
who would be interested in going on the month-long professional
exchange to Brazil. It is not necessary to
speak Portuguese. Rotary pays for the airfare and the young
adult's stay with Rotarian families.
Our program this Thursday will be Cathy Anderson-Myers
updating us on the Barbara Schmidt-Millar Celebration
of Life Triathlon, as well as the Children
of Chernobyl Project – both important programs
in our community. Don’t miss this meeting. A key Rotary
component will also be on display next Thursday, so look forward
to that as well. And if you missed getting your Rotary Shares
pin, Organization Chart, Roster and the list of Who Does What
– come to our meeting on Thursday and pick one up!
