Fellow Rotarians and hundreds of children and parents shared
the magic of the Children’s Festival
on Friday, 7/20. Pioneer Park sparkled with the glitter adorning
butterfly rings and magic wands, impromptu sword fights could
be seen everywhere with the gray foam swords covered with jewels,
toddlers strung macaroni necklaces and everyone made a crown.
Thanks go to Ron and Nancy Knaus, Ben
Barretta, Gayle Denney, JoAnne
Conely, Carolyn and Mike Inglis, Eric
Trygg, Marty Dinwiddie and Nicole
Oros for help in setting up, cleaning up and manning
a craft table. Special thanks go to Cathy Wilcox-Barnes
and her 4 year old granddaughter for putting up the directional
signs and helping with setup and cleanup – both Cathy
and her granddaughter arrived at the end of the festival
with rakes in their hands!
Our program on 7/19 included the Children of Chernobyl.
We support them with a donation and were enchanted by the singing
and dancing of two of the children – although they live
in a challenging environment at home, they were smiling and
joyful while performing.
Fair Booth shifts are filling out nicely;
however, we need more people on Saturday and Sunday. pP
John Woodford (many of us could identify him)
has been monitoring the Fair Booth schedule from an unknown
location and requests more workers on Saturday night.
David the Graduate gave us
a short (?) talk on the "Art Of A Rotary Meeting
Make-up". Rather than try to say repeat A-L-L
of the details here, he says he'll provide a flyer at the next
meeting.
Don’t miss our program this week. Alexander Wolfe,
an NU alum and recent graduate of SF State with a degree in
Cinema, has created a documentary film about the Batwa
Pygmies in Uganda. This documentary has yet to have
its premier; Alex will share his experiences in the jungle and
give us a short glimpse at his film. While we are all familiar
with the fine work of Dr. Kellermann, this
program will provide us with a new and different perspective.
Also, don’t miss our Fair Booth Picnic
next Thursday, August 2nd at 6:00 pm at the Fairgrounds.
If your first name begins with an A-K, please bring a salad
to share; if your first name begins with L-W, please bring a
dessert. Our Fair Booth menu will accompany our salads
and desserts. Guests and families are encouraged!
