Communication from many fronts reported that our Fair
Booth Picnic was a success.
The pictures attest to great creativity in pirate costume and
merriment by all. Tom and Ernie did an excellent
job judging the table décor. They knew that if they had
been participants they probably would have won the contest,
so they adorned their table with all manner of unusual items
and took the Ugliest Table award. The judging
was incredibly 'clean' (no bribes) and Laurie
Powell and Cheryl Benso walked away
with the Fair Booth Table Decoration Honor!
Remember that we are DARK this week. Our Fair Booth
fundraiser is poised to begin! It looks like the weather will
be mercifully cooler than last year, which means that a warm
sandwich (a la pulled pork or BBQ beef) will appeal
to fair goers. Ed Townsend has printed new
signage for our booth, and co-Chairmen pP Ben Barretta
and Joe Tomkiewicz have been working hard to
insure success. Enjoy your shifts and get to know your fellow
Rotarians and others who are manning our booth!
Good News – the Rotary Group Study Exchange
(GSE) application deadline has been extended to August 31st!
This is a professional exchange program for young adults (aged
25-40). A team will travel to Brazil and stay for about a month;
each American professional will visit a like Brazilian professional.
The team will stay with Brazilian families. It is not necessary
to speak Portuguese. If you know of a young adult who might
be interested in this opportunity a brochure and application
form is available at www.rotary.org
with a search on Group Study Exchange. Brochures and applications
will be available at our meeting on August 16th.
Did everyone see this month's District Newsletter?
It is a good way to see what's going on throughout the District.
The Fair Booth and the Children's Festival
are mentioned, and there is a picture from the Children's Festival
too! Take a look: www.rotarydistrict5190.org/District_News_0807.pdf
