Last week, we were fortunate to have a surprise visit from
Sandra Auerbach, Vice President of our newly
formed Rotaract Club who invited us to Charter
Night, Sunday, October 21. Cocktails
at 5:00, and Dinner at 6:00 at the Nevada City Elks. We’ve
got a pretty good crowd going (11 of us) but will pass around
the sign-up sheet this Thursday in the hopes that a few more
of us will sign up. Remember there will be no heavy metal music
(rap might be played later in the evening), and we don’t
have to do any dancing, so let’s show our support for
these impressive young people!
Nancy Weber gave us a very candid and at times
humorous look at the latest happenings at NID – the Nevada
County Irrigation District. She urged us to get involved by
attending NID Board meetings to voice our opinions and to even
consider running for a board position. Holly Hermansen,
our new Superintendent of Schools will be sharing her thoughts
with us this Thursday. Many of you may not know that our county
had the second highest reading and math test scores in the state!
Please attend to hear what Holly plans to do in her new position.
We are lucky that she has found the time to speak with us.
Our Radio Auction team is heavy into planning
under the leadership of Co-Chairpersons Carolyn Inglis
and Jeff Wenzel who are thinking up all kinds
of new angles for our auction. This year John Hensley
and Sandra Brown are passing the Auction Day
Program responsibilities to the wonderful voice of Phil
Ruble. We look forward to upcoming news from this great
team.
And remember to mark your calendars for our District
Governor, Vic Slaughter visit on October
25th. We’ll have copies of his newsletter at
this week’s meeting, but you can see it on line by going
to http://www.rotarydistrict5190.org/District_News_1007.pdf.
When Vic attended the Loyalton meeting, they nicknamed him Ding-A-Ling
– when he comes to our club maybe we can find out what
that was all about. And lastly if you haven’t already
done so, please send in or give your Foundation contributions
(Sustaining Members - $100) to Shirl or Ellen. The planning
for our Foundation Dinner on November
8th is well underway.
