We thoroughly enjoyed District Governor Vic (Ding-A-Ling)
Slaughter’s visit to our club! His address to
us had the right amount of Rotary facts and his personal experiences.
His effervescent wife Kathie livened up the
lunch; and we always enjoy having our Assistant District
Governor Pamela Yazell. Vic inducted our newest member
Robin Milam (classification: Internet Marketing)
and presented our well deserved Quiet Rotarian Award
to Cathy Wilcox-Barnes. Please take a minute
to introduce yourself to Robin and congratulate Cathy! Ed
Townsend also presented PDG Dave Denney
with his “Eradicate Rotary” bumper sticker to commemorate
Dave’s contribution as Program Chair at the recent Zone
Institute.
At this week’s meeting our Past District Governor
Bob Dorr will be visiting our club to talk about an
interesting International Project that his club, Cameron Park,
is starting in the Philippines. He is partnering with clubs
in our district, and we thought we should hear more about the
project, so don’t miss this one!
Our Foundation Dinner is November
8th at the Miners Foundry; Cocktails
begin at 5:30, Dinner is at 6:00. The Keynote Speaker is Shai
Tamari, who is in his second year as a Rotary
World Peace Fellow. We will be recognizing our Paul
Harris Fellows. It is not too late to contribute to the Rotary
Foundation – Sustaining Member contribution is $100, Paul
Harris Fellow contribution is $1,000 and you can also become
a Paul Harris Society Member with a yearly contribution of $1,000.
Give your contributions to Shirl Mendonca or
Ellen Davis at any time as the year progresses.
And thank you for your Rotary Foundation contributions –
it funds the myriad of projects that Rotary accomplishes around
the world.
Our Minden Interclub Exchange was a hit! Thanks
to Cathy Wilcox-Barnes for planning and organizing
the variety of opportunities to mingle with another club –
we started it off with a wine tasting and tour of the Nevada
City Winery, continued with an Off Broad Street play and dinner
and ended up with a brunch at the National on Sunday morning.
Mo Hernandez, President of the Minden Club,
has invited us to visit them in Minden, Nevada to see the sights
in their neck of the woods. The Mindenites were a great group
of people.
