Foundation Dinner. Photo / The Kidd |

Our Foundation Dinner was great fun last Thursday.
The Stone Hall at Miners Foundry was beautifully decorated,
Rotarians were cheerful and the speaker (Shai Tamari)
was thought provoking and educational. Our club recognized 11
Paul Harris Fellows at this year’s dinner.
The Paul Harris Fellow was created in 1957 to recognize individuals
who have contributed $1,000 to the Foundation; that first year
there were 12 Fellows; this year, 50 years after the award’s
creation Rotary recognized the millionth Fellow!
And the number of Fellows increases by 40,000 annually!
Even though the Foundation Dinner has come and gone, you can
still contribute to the Rotary Foundation – for $100 you
become a Sustaining Member; for $1,000 you become a Paul Harris
Fellow. Nevada County South received an award from our District
Governor, Vic Slaughter for 100% Sustaining Members in their
club.
This week, we delivered dictionaries to the Alta Sierra
Elementary School as part of our annual Dictionary
Project. Julie Cobden who is in charge of this program
gave the 70 fifth graders a quick history of the dictionary
– they were eager to get their own copy. The principal
of the school said that the kids really cherish their dictionaries,
and while they might lose another text book, the dictionaries
are rarely lost.
Our speaker this week is Ralf Swenson from
the Superintendent’s Office who will talk about Career/Technical
opportunities. Holly Hermansen, our new Superintendent of Schools,
reported that Ralf is an excellent speaker when she came to
visit our club, so don’t miss Ralf.
Our attendance for the month of October was 80%.
Fantastic! It looks like those of you who are doing make-ups
are notifying Ellen or David – thanks for keeping on top
of that!
