2008 has arrived and everyone seemed to be happy in the New
Year at our first meeting in January. The bell is still missing,
but there is rumor that the culprits will leave a clue or two
so that it can be found.
One of our returning Drew Reynolds Scholarship
winners attended our meeting and gave us a little glimpse of
how the scholarship enabled her to get back to school. She,
like some of our past recipients, said that the scholarship
gave her the confidence that we were all behind her and pulling
for her success which shows that the scholarship is more than
just the money.
Mary Ann Trygg, our county Librarian and the
wife of fellow Rotarian, Eric Trygg, gave us
a very informative program about the library system. We can
check out more than just books and can conduct library 'business'
on-line - like book renewals and arranging for loaner materials
from other libraries. Mary Ann was impressed that we had such
a high percentage of members who carry library cards - maybe
even some of those 9 who were arrested in their 'youth' are
library card carriers now.
Our program this week is our Auction Committee
presenting a recap of our results from our Radio Auction last
year and our plans for this year. This team (Carolyn
Inglis, Jeff Wenzel, Gary
Gustafson, David Kenitzer, Ed
Townsend, Mike Colantuono, Julie
Miller, Luke Cummings and Robin
Milam) has been working very hard over the last several
months - doing research and analysis on the bids and categories
from last year, talking with KNCO about their suggestions for
improvement, preparing and compiling all the materials that
go into each members' personalized Auction Kit, working with
the Union and others on publicity, having knock-down-drag-out
arguments about jugular issues. We will find their presentation
fun and informative for this our major fundraiser for our club.
See you all on Thursday. Dress warmly!
