at last week's meeting. Photo / L Cummings |

Last week, our Radio Auction Committee presented
our plan for this year's auction. We all received our personalized
Sales Kits complete with donation forms, window posters, last
year's circular and our lists of donors from 2006 and 2007.
We are ready to begin gathering donations!
Last year, we raised $22,000 which we gave
out in scholarships to the fine youth of our community. We are
hoping to up our total net this year!!
Our program this week is presented by Laura Crookston
- Debbie Plass on "Focus on Customer Service".
We are looking forward to seeing Laura at our lunch meeting
- she's been quite busy going back to work almost immediately
after the birth of her second son, Cooper.
January is "Rotary Awareness Month",
and there are two events that we all should be aware of. The
first is the District Conference which is May
1-4 at the new Peppermill in Reno. This event will celebrate
our's years worth of accomplishments with informative and inspiring
speakers, entertainment and great food, a skit from the Rotary
Youth Exchange students, the District Speech and Music Contests
and club awards among other activities. The Conference is great
fun!
The second big event is the Rotary International Conference
which is June 15-18 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. This
Conference is the big enchilada of Rotary events featuring our
International President Wilf Wilkerson, more
inspiring and educational speakers, interesting breakout groups,
entertainment and a great way to learn so much about the worldwide
scope of Rotary. Sessions will be translated into 10 different
languages, Rotarians will be dressed in the fashion of their
countries and you'll hear a lot of languages being spoken in
the hallways. An International Conference is a massive event,
but in the end, we are all Rotarians and as a participant, you
can feel that bond. If you've never been to an International
Conference, now is the time - it's in Los Angeles in our own
state!

2008 Radio Auction: Save
the date! This year's Radio Auction is set for
Saturday, March 29.
2008 District Conference: The District Conference
is coming! The District Conference is the culmination of what
the 53 Rotary clubs in our district accomplish. And this Rotary
year, we will all come together on May 1-4, 2008
at the Peppermill Resort Spa Casino in Reno to
discuss, celebrate, and plan for the future! Registration and
details about the Conference are already available on the District
Website.
99th Annual Rotary International Convention: As RI President
Wilf Wilkinson says, "a Rotary convention is an event like
no other", and this year's RI Convention
is only going to be 450 miles away at the Los Angeles
Convention Center. June 15-18, 2008
is just around the corner, so please take a look at the Convention
Brochure available on the RI Website: http://www.rotary.org/RIdocuments/en_pdf/c08_brochure.pdf.
