February is Rotary’s World Understanding Month,
and there is no better way to start to understand more about
the world than the Group Study Exchange (GSE)
program.
Young professionals (25-40) are sponsored by Rotary Clubs throughout
the world to participate in a vocational and cultural exchange.
This year, the team from Nevada County will be traveling to
Brazil, and we in turn will be hosting the team leader
and 5 team members from Brazil. They are an
Accountant, an Architect, a Systems Analyst, a Journalist, an
Operations Analyst, and a University Professor. Our club will
be hosting two of the team members in our homes and the Kenitzer
family will be conducting two of the vocational tours –
David will provide the vocational exchange
for the Systems Analyst and Eleanor will provide
the vocational exchange for the Operations Analyst. Make sure
you have Monday, April 21st on your calendars
– our club meeting that week has been moved to that Monday
so that we all can attend the GSE lunch. This lunch provides
a very interesting venue for the team members to tell us about
their country and themselves; they all speak great English and
is a great way to learn about a country that you might not know
much about.
Also, rates go up on March 1st for the District
Conference, so this month is the time to register!
Our conference is May 1-4 and is the time for
us to celebrate this Rotary year. Go to our District Website
at www.RotaryDistrictConference.org
to register for the conference and call the toll free line at
the Peppermill (866-821-9996) to make your
room reservation (mention Group No. AR5190). Paper applications
for the conference will be available at all of our upcoming
meetings. Our Rotary International President Wilf Wilkinson
has challenged District Governors in a book drive at the RI
Convention, and our DG Vic has pledged to bring
5,190 books to the RI Convention in June. Vic is asking each
club to bring as many books as possible to the District Conference
in May. So... since we always like a challenge, our
club has pledged that we will bring 100 books to the conference.
To help in that pledge, we are asking that each of you bring
a children's book to our next meetings. The
book can be gently used, or new, of course. We will keep you
posted on this challenge.

2008 District Conference: The District Conference
is coming! The District Conference is the culmination of what
the 53 Rotary clubs in our district accomplish. And this Rotary
year, we will all come together on May 1-4, 2008
at the Peppermill Resort Spa Casino in Reno to
discuss, celebrate, and plan for the future! Registration and
details about the Conference are already available on the District

99th Annual Rotary International Convention: As RI President
Wilf Wilkinson says, "a Rotary convention is an event like
no other", and this year's RI Convention
is only going to be 450 miles away at the Los Angeles
Convention Center. June 15-18, 2008
is just around the corner, so please take a look at the Convention
Brochure available on the RI Website: http://www.rotary.org/RIdocuments/en_pdf/c08_brochure.pdf.
