This Thursday, we are meeting at the North Star House
in Grass Valley, instead of the National Hotel. If you want
to carpool, meet at the National Hotel Parking Lot at 11:45.
We will have a short meeting along with box lunches which will
be provided.
Directions to the North Star House:
From Nevada City, take Hwy-49 south to the Empire Street Exit.
Turn left at the signal. Then turn right on to Mill Street.
From Mill, turn right on to Mc Courtney Road. Across from the
Fairgrounds Gate 3, turn left on Old Auburn Road. Go 6 tenths
of a mile. Then turn left at 12183 Old Auburn Road. Turn left
into the parking lot and park in designated areas. We hope to
see you there!
The District Conference was great fun, informative
and an excellent opportunity for fellowship. The weekend was
a happy celebration of the accomplishments of all the clubs
in our District. Our club received the Presidential
Citation, Club Service and Special
Project of the Year Awards thanks to all the work that
all of you have accomplished this year! The Nevada Union
High School students dominated both the Speech and
Music competitions, and the NU Interact Club
took almost all the awards - our RYLA candidate last year, Manami,
received one of them!
On Sunday morning, we honored and remembered our own Jim
Young and Karl Stewart as well as
all Rotarians from clubs in our District who passed away during
the Rotary year. Then on a lighter note, the demotion of Governor
Vic included a gift of Rotary Underwear for
both Vic and Kathie! District Governor
Elect Wyn Spiller presented Governor Vic and Kathie
with two water color paintings, one from a recent graduate of
the Friendship House which is generously supported by Rotarians
in our area.
After Wyn was inducted as Governor she gave us a good look at
her goals for next year. Our club will be represented well at
the District level next year - our pP David Kenitzer
will be the District Rotaract Chair, Gayle
Denney will again Chair the District Music
Contest and your soon-to-be-pP Nancy Kemp will
serve as the Peace Fellow Chair for the District.
We will share more about the Conference at our meeting on May
15th!

Party Hearty: This year's
Party Hearty is next
Friday (May 16) at
the Miners Foundry. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Tickets
are $20 in advance or $24 at
the door. This year's event features elegant hors d'oeuvres,
wine, beer, door prizes,
silent auction, and of course, Jimmi
Accardi & the Wildcats. Remember, all proceeds benefit
Women of Worth, so be sure to attend this fun
and worth-while event!
99th Annual Rotary International Convention: As RI President
Wilf Wilkinson says, "a Rotary convention is an event like
no other", and this year's RI Convention
is only going to be 450 miles away at the Los Angeles
Convention Center. June 15-18 is right
around the corner, so please take a look at the Convention Brochure
available on the RI Website: http://www.rotary.org/RIdocuments/en_pdf/c08_brochure.pdf.
