Because of the persistent smoke, the venue has changed for the Demotion Party! See the 'Club News' section for more info...

This is my final Rotario as we look towards the Demotion Party which I know will be very complimentary of my exemplary job as your president (NOT!). I have to say that it has been a "bell"... or should I say, it has been a ball, since I never really saw the bell much.

I’d like to thank our Board of Directors this year. Bob Buhlis was a great President Elect and Vocational Chair – his frequent phrase at board meetings when asked for his status was "All goals on track". Eric Trygg, Membership, hosted many fun lunches at Fred’s Szechuan while getting to know our new members. Nicole Dillard, Public Relations, got us on the front page of The Union on two occasions. Michael Colantuono, Programs, made sure that our club members provided the programs – and we had an interesting assortment! Stacie Hart, International, kept us informed about our sister "brother" Cabo club and helped us figure out where to contribute internationally. Gary Gustafson, Community Service, quietly provided the key underpinning of the Radio Auction, Abalone Feed and Party Hearty. Ed Townsend, Youth, selected our two RYLA candidates along with other youth activities. Pete Brost, Director at Large, always had the sage advice on how to proceed on a difficult issue and was the master at getting us back to the subject when things had begun to wander out of control.

Three board members merit special thanks. Cathy Wilcox-Barnes, our Club Service Chair, did exceptional party planning, Sunshine, organizing our Minden outing, poetry writing, baking and treat-making for all our events. I still cannot believe we all had our own truffle in a little box at our Christmas Party. Ellen Davis, our Treasurer, kept the books, paid the bills, kept track of attendees at all the 'special events', organized the Land of the Pygmy event. The treasurer does A LOT in our club, and Ellen did it all and more! AND David Kenitzer, our Secretary and Immediate Past President, took all our minutes, provided membership reports at board meetings, sent membership information to the district and to RI, AND provided all the technical resources (connections for Day Of and pictures and website info) for our Radio Auction, AND published every one of our Bulletins, sent us special emails if we had a schedule change, kept our website up-to-date AND took pictures at every opportunity. Awesome!

Thanks for the fun, and I’ll see you this Friday at the demotion!

Demotion Party: Because of the thick smoke around the area and especially up Hwy-20, we are moving Friday night’s Demotion Party to a new venue -- the Nevada City Winery! Please join us at the Winery’s Tasting Room at 321 Spring Street in Downtown Nevada City (right next door to the Miners Foundry). Click here for directions. Since the Tasting Room is open to the public until 6pm, please do not arrive before 6pm. Cocktails start at 6pm. Dinner and festivities start at 7pm. Rotarians pay $25, while spouses are guests of the club. Please RSVP by emailing David Kenitzer.
Vocational Service Award
: Nominations for our club’s Vocational Service Award are being accepted. The award is given to the NC Rotary Club member who best exemplifies his or her professional classification for the year. The 2006 award was presented to George Rebane. Contact PE Bob Buhlis for more details or for the nomination form.
