Congratulations to pP Nancy Kemp and her board
for a job well done during her "Rotary Shares" term.
Although she was teased a lot about her missing bell, it was
fun to see it returned to her at her demotion as Captain
Crook & the Lost Rotarians (played by pP
David Kenitzer and his team) attempted to infiltrate
themselves into Rotary. The arrangements and clever decorations
were planned and executed by pP Ellen Davis
with the help of several dedicated Rotarians, while Cathy
Wilcox-Barnes wrote and produced the imaginative and
funny skit to honor our beloved Tinker Bell.
Thanks to DG Wyn for allowing us to use the
Nevada City Winery Tasting Room for the demotion, since we were
"smoked out" up the hill and to Austin Farrar
for an outstanding dinner.
We start the new year with the theme "Make Dreams
Real" with an emphasis on making dreams real for
children. International President D. K. Lee
has challenged Rotarians worldwide to strive towards significantly
reducing the number of children who die daily (23,000 at last
count). He has also challenged us to continue the Polio
Plus program to complete the eradication of polio in
the last three countries where it is still a problem over the
next three years. As our board completes the planning process
for 2008-09, these challenges will be primary in our goals.
This week DG Wyn Spiller will be installing
our new board, while our newest members Bob Skipper
and Austin Farrar will be inducted by pDG
Dave Denney. Also, the Vocational Award
will be presented to one of our members who has best exemplified
his or her professional classification during the past year.
It was a difficult decisions, since several well qualified nominations
were made.
Now what is with “Bob’s _______?”
at the beginning? Your lame new president hasn’t come
up with the perfect replacement for last year's president's
message, so your suggestions are requested. "Nancy's Nuggets"
was quite appropriate since Nancy was involved with Captain
Crook & the Lost Rotarians in their search for gold nuggets,
but a hard act to follow. Let David or me know if you have an
idea.
It's going to be a great year as we work together to make dreams
real!
