It’s Fair Time again, and just about
every club member will be at our pulled pork and beef
sandwich booth on Treat Street this week working a
shift. Joe Tomkiewicz reports that the schedule
is just about complete and all food and supplies are ordered.
Cathy Wilcox-Barnes led a clean up crew to
spiff up the interior and we’ll be ready to go on Wednesday
morning. Thanks to everyone!
Our first family event for the year at the fairgrounds last
week was very successful, and it looked to me like everyone
had a good time. The decorations and costumes were imaginative
and added to the spirit of Barnyard Buckaroos,
the theme of the fair and of our rally and party. Congratulations
to the winners of the table decorating contest. By the way the
word is out: Luke announced at the party that
he will be a daddy for the second time. Congratulations to the
Cummings family!
Last Friday night, I was with six Rotarians at the National
Hotel and Nevada Theatre. Two... count ‘em... TWO
were wearing their pins and one had hers in her purse. Those
pins should be on lapels, not on dresser tops and purses. Last
warning – fines for members caught in public without pins
begin today – be especially sure to wear you pin with
pride during your shift at the fair!
If you haven’t done so, how about applying for a Rotary
International MasterCard? Each card issued earns the
Nevada City Rotary Club $25 after the first $75 of purchases
if made within 90 days. There is no annual fee and is advertised
as a low annual percentage rate along with “WorldPoints”
redeemable for cash, travel and merchandise. Program proceeds
will be used for Rotary’s US $100 million Challenge matching
the Gates Foundation $100 million Grant for
polio eradication. See me for an application or go on line at
www.rotary.org/Pages/creditcard.html
So, no meeting this week and we’ll back to our normal
schedule on the 14th. Have fun at the fair!
