Rotario - April 13, 2017

Dear Rotarians and Friends,

Welcome to our latest Rotario newsletter. Once again it is a pleasure keeping you informed of our club activities in the coming weeks.

This Week : Tim Foley, Nevada City Police Chief

Timothy Foley currently serves as the Chief of Police in Nevada City.

Previously, he had a 32 year career with the San Francisco Police Department.  During his time with the SFPD, he served in a variety of assignments in the Patrol, Investigation, Airport, and Administration Bureaus.  During his career he was awarded a Silver Medal of Valor, 6 Meritorious Conduct Awards, and numerous Department Commendations.

Throughout his career he remained engaged as a community oriented policing leader, developing numerous programs that reduced crime, improved neighborhoods and strengthened ties between law enforcement and the community such as the SFPD Wilderness Adventure Youth Program, Walk with the Captain, and the Tenderloin Youth Council.  Ultimately he received special designation as a Community Policing Lieutenant.

In the final years of his career with the SFPD, he was assigned to the Training Division as the Officer in Charge of the Professional Development Section responsible for managing all ongoing training for department personnel.  Tim earned his Bachelor's degree in Management from St. Mary's College.

Last Week :  Trip Report from Baja Work Project Team

In Pres. Walt's absence, Cathy Wilcox-Barnes chaired the meeting in the restaurant area, while Dennis Geare set up the projector.  Then Carolyn Feuille and Cathy  shared this year’s Los Barriles experience through stories and photographs. This year the team was able to meet students at the Albergues and actually worked side by side with some of the parents who also volunteered. Their presentation had many of us wishing we had gone and wanting to participate next year !  Included in the presentation was a nice photo from Carolyn of a 4-Way Test banner in Spanish (pictured on the left). Great job!  Gracias a los todos!!!!

The Rotary Foundation (TRF):  if you haven't already made a contribution this year, we encourage each of our members to make a donation to the Foundation. Please know that a donation of any size is welcome and there are multiple ways to give. The Foundation started 100 years ago with a $26.50 donation.  In celebration of The Rotary Foundation's Centennial year, we are encouraging every member to consider contributing at least $26.50.  Our overall goal is to average a $100 donation per member. Also, several of our members are Bequest Society members who have included Rotary in their will or estate planning.  Thank you for your consideration of this opportunity.

Fundraising efforts

Cathy Wilcox-Barnes  has identified a location for a possible yard sale this spring.  We are asking club members to continue accumulating saleable items, while we seek a compatible date for the yard sale..

Pres. Walt and Christine Newsom have continued the dialogue to solicit gift certificate donations from local restaurants as prizes for a planned fundraising raffle this Spring.
