Message from President Cathy

As I write this, I am preparing to leave on a backpacking trip that was planned over a year ago. We plan so far ahead because one of my hiking companions is a judge and she has to plan her Court calendar a year in advance. It was planned long before I agreed to take on the Presidency of our Rotary Club again. It was planned long before I knew the actual dates of the Fair. My only request when I committed to the dates for the hike was that we avoid the second week in August because that is usually Fair week and I needed to be here. I didn’t realize we actually would be hiking on the night that we hold our Pre-fair picnic. That being said, I’m sorry I’m missing the scrumptious food you’ll be feasting on and will be instead choking down dehydrated, prepackaged backpacking food. I believe it’s Louisiana Red Beans and Rice for Thursday night. I know the Club is in good hands for Thursday with Robin and Tom handling things so I’m not worried (just feeling a bit guilty).

I will be back to help with Saturday’s cleanup so I’m not totally shirking my duties. I’m sure I’ll see you all at one point or another either cleaning up on Saturday or during your shifts at the Fair. I know the shifts are hot and long but all of you make it such a fun time it flies by. It’s a really great opportunity to Connect (got to get our Theme word in) with each other and our community. Thank you to all for working so hard to help support our club in this important fundraising event. For some you’ve been toiling away at the booth for many years. For others this may be a first-time. Long-timer, short-timer, first-timer – You’re all equally important to our success. I hope you’ll take this opportunity to start “Connecting” at the picnic. I’ll be there in spirit!

Bring your favorite cleaning supplies and gloves though we will also provide supplies.

This could be you!

Rotary Rafters Eliminating Polio Raft Trip - South Fork of the American River
Each year all four clubs in Auburn, CA ride the rapids to rid polio and this year we are asking Area 4 if they would like to join in. What better way to start a Rotary year that is all about connecting, then working with two area’s and multiple clubs, connecting members and their passion. Sunday August 11, 2019, cost is $125 per person with $50 of that going to you and your Rotary Clubs foundation. All food and drinks are provided for and the fun, well that is a given. For details on the day and contact for registration, visit Rotary Rafters.
