Rotario - August 16, 2016

Dear Rotarians and Friends,

Welcome to my latest Rotario newsletter. Once again it is a pleasure keeping you informed of our club activities in the coming weeks.

Thursday Social - Rotary District Governor John Sullivan

Our special Rotary guests this week are DG John Sullivan and his wife Sandy.  Join us as we welcome John and Sandy. Social meeting begins at 5:30pm.  Executive team is meeting with DG John at 3pm and a full Board meeting is at 4pm. DG John and Sandy are members of the Rotary Club of Jackson.  Among John's many roles in Rotary, he has served as District Secretary July 2009 - 2014 and was District Technology Committee Chair.

Nevada City Rotary Kicks it Up on Treat Street at the Fair!

A huge thank you to all who worked the Fair. Sorry if we missed you in a photo. If you have photos send them to Robin to post on Rotary Club of Nevada City.

It's time to celebrate another big year at the Fair.  We don't know our bottomline profit yet but revenues were almost $25,000 -- $3,500 more than last year. We netted right around $10,000 including the cost of our new steam table. Not only did our team put in over 500 hours of volunteer service at the booth this year, we had some striking results, including selling over 1800 pulled pork sandwiches, almost 700 shredded chicken sandwiches (our new menu item), and over 1000 soft drinks.

Meet Emma Lawless of Nevada Union FFA and her market goat Harley. Nevada City Rotary purchased Harley as our John Taylor Memorial Jr Livestock Scholarship! Congratulations Emma on raising a beautiful goat! Emma is an accomplished competitive swimmer with Olympic aspirations who won multiple gold medals at Western Zone Championships this summer.  She will be a Junior at Nevada Union.

9 year old Mical Woodall sent us an endearing letter and picture with his baby chicken inviting us to the Jr Livestock Auction. We added a "bump" donation to his market chicken.

These are our future leaders and the various FFA and 4H Clubs in our community provide a pathway for leadership development.  These youth are what so much of the Nevada County Fair is about!
