Rotario - December 15, 2016

Dear Rotarians and Friends,

Welcome to our latest Rotario newsletter. Once again it is a pleasure keeping you informed of our club activities in the coming weeks.

This Week - meeting moved to Holiday Party at the Bridge House

Forty of our members & their partners have signed up for this festive occasion  ! We hope this includes you ! Feel free to bring your own beverage of choice as well..  The party starts at 5:30pm and the cost is $20 per person!  We want to thank our hosts, Judi Soldavini and Her husband, George Roberts for sharing their unique home.

We will not be Bellringing this year. In lieu of bellringing, we will be donating gifts for children and adults to the Salvation Army and Hospitality House.  Please bring your gifts to our Holiday Party.  New toys and clothing as well as gently used clothing and household items are welcome! If you choose to wrap your gifts, please include a note taped to the outside that states what it is, size, age range, and gender, if appropriate.  Contact Robin if you have questions.

Last Week's Speakers - Christie Gillison and Caitlin Jones from Partners in English Language Learning (PiELL).

Along with their PowerPoint presentation, Christie and Caitlin gave us a detailed overview of the services they provide for adults who are struggling to learn the English language. Their noble mission is to help people who don't speak English to learn enough to be able to converse, fill out job applications, and obtain employment. While they have a modest operation staffed mostly with volunteers, the results are making foreign-born people much more productive in our society.

We Have Lost One of Our Own

With great sadness, we report the passing of John Hazelwood, one of our very special Rule of 85 club members. After a prolonged illness, John passed in mid-November. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. We understand that a memorial service will be planned for some time after the holidays.

Booth winterization - update

Due to activities in the Fairgrounds and poor weather conditions, our team's second visit to the fair booth was postponed. We will reschedule the activities as soon as possible, as resources and fairground access permit..

Baja - Los Barriles Update

The dates for our work project in Los Barriles - Baja, Mexico have been firmed up.  They are March 23 - 28. More details will be forthcoming at our Mixer meeting January 5.
