Dear Rotarians and Friends,
Wednesday February 19, 2020 - Community Awards Dinner
No Meeting This Thursday! The Community Awards dinner is Wednesday evening (in place of our regular Thursday meeting) and, we are all eagerly waiting to hear who the awardees are this year. Nicole always does an outstanding job representing our club during the selection process. With so many deserving nominees I’m glad that I don’t have to help decide. Our community runs on volunteerism and Rotarians are usually involved, not only with Rotary projects, but also with a myriad of other things happening in Nevada County and beyond.
2020 Nominees include:
- Lowell Robinson Business of the Year for 2020: Hansen Bros. Enterprises and Mike Bratton State Farm.
- Citizen of the Year: Howard Levine, Doug Moon, Bill Drown and Tom Kellar.
- Volunteer of the Year: Kari Stehmeyer, Tina Skrukrud and Linda Miller.
A final winner in each category will be announced that evening.
No-host bar social begins at 5:30pm. Dinner by Antonio's is at 6:15pm.
Program begins at 7:00p.m.

I mentioned in an earlier Rotario that I wanted to start highlighting what our members do when they aren’t busy being Rotarians and asked you to let me know what you do in your “spare” non-Rotarian time. This week I would like to highlight one of those busy members – Carolyn Feuille.
Carolyn paints Russian-style icons as a hobby. She has been learning this sacred art form at her former church in San Francisco, St. Gregory of Nyssa, which is well known for its numerous icons. She has arranged for some of these icons to be on exhibit at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Grass Valley - the "Art and Spirit of Icons". It will be open to the public on February 29 at Buck Hall, adjacent to the church from 11 am. - 4 pm.
Viewers can learn how icons have evolved as both an art form and a means of worship starting in the 3rd century through the present. Icons are the original tradition of Christian sacred art and are still used to inspire us today. Several iconographers have contributed to make this beautiful display available to us and will be present to answer questions and explain the icons. Icons painted in both egg tempera & pigments, and acrylic paint are shown. Please, no food or drinks allowed. Contact Carolyn for more information: firstname.lastname@example.org or call 650-867-4564
In addition to organizing icon exhibits, Carolyn is active in AAUW and has most recently been leading a team coordinating a forum entitled "Domestic and Sexual Violence: How It Affects Us All". They will have speakers addressing the issue from multiple perspectives of health, law enforcement, forensic medicine, education and legal process. The forum will take place April 4, 2020 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church. I’m sure Carolyn will be happy to give you more details.
Please let me know if you are involved in something outside of Rotary (Paul with Habitat, PE Tom with North Star House, Robin with BYLT, etc…???) I’d love to share your activities here in the Rotario!
