Rotario - February 23,2017

Dear Rotarians and Friends,

Welcome to our latest Rotario newsletter. Once again it is a pleasure keeping you informed of our club activities in the coming weeks.

This week :  Lunch Meeting  with Holly Hermansen - Superintendent of Schools

Holly Hermansen has been the Nevada County Superintendent of Schools since 2007. She started her career as a substitute teacher at Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall after completing her BS in Criminal Justice Administration. She spent the next several years completing a special ed teaching credential and master’s while teaching students with severe disabilities for Contra Costa County Office of Education and the San Ramon Valley Unified School District.

Holly moved to Nevada County in 1994 and worked as a program specialist with the Placer County SELPA for the next 6 years. She then became a principal and district director of special ed and in 2004 she came to Nevada County Superintendent of Schools as an assistant superintendent and director of the newly formed Nevada County SELPA.  Holly’s collaborative skills as well as instructional knowledge and long-standing relationships with the school districts, agencies and business community in Nevada County have helped her to be successful.

Holly and her husband Jon are both very proud to be Rotarians.

Last Week : A SURPRISE Birthday Party for Tom Coleman !

On this past, very wet Thursday evening we sprung a bit of a surprise on our host, Tom Coleman, the owner of the National Hotel. Since Tom's birthday is actually on Saturday, February 18, we decided to use this mixer meeting as a celebration for his 79th birthday a few days early. Pesident Walt presented Tom with a birthday card that contained a gift certificate of dinner for two at the Willo restaurant, which is a favorite of Tom's partner, Ernie. Tom was also able to report that Ernie's recent surgery went very well and she is currently recovering as a local facility. Additionally, Cathy Wilcox-Barnes provided some humorous original poetry poking fun at Tom and the aging process. Lastly, the club provided a rather nice birthday cake which included carrot cake and buttercream icing. Needless to say, all the attendees joined in singing "Happy Birthday" to Tom.

Booth Winterization - update

Due to activities in the Fairgrounds and continuing poor weather conditions, our team's second winterizing  visit to the fair booth continues to be delayed.  Tom Milam has installed the hardware on the primed door and the protective paneling for the compressor.  Once we have dry weather we should be ready for another workday.
