Rotario - July 25, 2019
Dear Rotarians and Friends,
MOVED TO 10:00AM FIELD TRIP!!!
Thursday, July 18, 2019 - 10:00am
Elevation 2477 (Cannabis Dispensary)
200 Searls Ave, Nevada City, CA 95959 Directions
Message from President Cathy
Some people think that Nevada City acted too hastily approving the cannabis dispensary in town. Some think they didn’t act fast enough. Some think that it is a terrible way to raise income for the town. Others think it’s the best thing to come along since Grass Valley Group. Some people think prescriptions for cannabis help their medical ailments while others think it’s just a ruse to allow someone to get high. There are all kinds of opinions about cannabis – I’m sure our club runs the gamut on opinions.
This Week: Elevation 2477 (Cannabis Dispensary)
This coming Thursday you have a chance to find out first-hand how the new cannabis dispensary (Elevation 2477) works and what they do. You’ll have a chance to tour the business and get all your questions (hopefully) answered. Then you can form an informed opinion and have information to back up your point of view. Connecting is more than just reading something and passing that information on. It’s about seeing for yourself and then connecting all the dots and passing THAT information on. It’s about connecting with facets of our community that we wouldn’t normally encounter. So, even if you are one of the members who may disapprove of the dispensary, come on the field trip and see what it’s all about. Go where you have never gone before and may never go again. Start connecting!
See you Thursday at 9:50 a.m. at the old South Yuba Club off Searls Ave. in Nevada City.

Last Week: Fellow Rotarian Irene Perbal "My Life under Nazi Rule"
Irene Perbal concluded her very moving story of Life under Nazi Rule to a standing ovation. She was only 6 years old when the Nazis invaded Holland and her home city of Amsterdam. Irene's parents were staunch patriots who took an active part in the resistance protecting Jewish friends. Her father called upon young Irene to assist delivering messages around the city. In 1942 the Gestapo invaded their home one morning when two Jewish friends were hiding in her house. The Gestapo took them away with my father. Irene never saw her father again. Thank you Irene for sharing your stories so that the memories of the attrocities are not forgotten.
Irene sent a Thank you:
Cathy, Thank you so very much for the warm reception I received at your club.
I am impressed with your perfect organization of your Area, everywhere my slideshow
was already in place. And I was very touched with your Thought for the Day with my school picture.
Please tell your club members how grateful I am for their total focus and respect for my life story. And also how pleased I was to see so many familiar faces.
My journey to Area 4 of our District has been beautiful. What a privilege to be part of the Rotary family.
Irene Perbal
Children's Festival - July 19
Over 2,500 children of all ages frolicked at this year's Children’s Festival on Friday, July 19. A HUGE THANK YOU to Nancy Kemp for her yearround efforts to plan the delightful festivities each year. Thank you to Gayle Denney (Renaissance Rubbings Chair), Karen Young, and Isabel Phelps for hosting the Renaissance Rubbings and to John Wilson, Cathy Wilcox-Barnes, Carolyn Fueille, Isabel Phelps and Robin Milam (jumping in for Sandy Stickel) for hosting Solar Nature Prints.
Preparing for Fair Time!
Tom Ryan, Tom Milam and Robin have been handling maintenance and repairs in preparation for Clean Up work parties on August 1 and August 3. With their efforts our work parties can focus on cleaning walls, floors and countertops. Please plan to join us. Some light raking of the outside (thanks to Walt) and removal of patio panels is needed while windows, countertops and floors get scrubbed.
Robin coordinated annual service of our walk-in cooler. It is ready for food that Walt has ordered. Tom Milam filled the gas water heater plus disconnected and removed the old hot water heater ... Any questions as to why, see the photo. Tom Ryan (on the ladder) and Tom repainted the top front portion of the booth. The Nevada City Rotary signs are being repainted. They will be reinstalled during one of our work parties.
