Rotario - July 26, 2016

Dear Rotarians and Friends,

Welcome to my latest Rotario newsletter. Once again it is a pleasure keeping you informed of our club activities in the coming weeks.

July 28 Lunch Meeting - Supervisor Nate Beason

This week, Supervisor Nate Beason who is completing his service on the Nevada County Board of Supervisors, will reflect on the Ins and Outs, Highs and Lows, Ups and Downs of serving as a county supervisor. During 30 years as a naval officer, Beason captained three ships, and led Operation Restore Hope in Somalia in 1993. Captain Beeson has served as a Nevada County Supervisor for 12 years, collecting many perspectives on the Ins and Outs, as well as the Lows and Highs of county government.

Pllease note, this meeting with Nate was rescheduled from last month because of a family emergency.

Last week July 21 for our Third Thursday Social -

Cheryl Wicks, Sammie's Friends told the story of her dear dog Sammie and how Sammie's Friends came about. The audience was captivated with some of Cheryl's stories of some of the animals who have been saved  and/or placed by her organization.

Our meeting was also honored to have a "first visit " by our recovering Club Secretary, Cathy Wilcox-Barnes !  Cathy is finally a bit "mobile' after suffering a serious broken leg while hiking 6 weeks ago.  We were all glad to see that she was finally allowed by her doctors to leave the house . :)

Also, Emily Gollub who just completed her Freshman year at Rochester Institute of Technology is one of our 2015 Scholarship recipients and was one of our RYLA students.  Emily visited Thursday night to provide an update on her successes and to express her gratitude for our support.  We will renew her scholarship for the coming years along as she continues her degree.

Lastly, we received a brief update from Club member Carolyn Feuille regarding her eye-opening experiences while being a first-time counselor at RYLA camp.  We look forward to a full presentation in the future when Carolyn is able to have our RYLA campers join in the presentation .

Next week: Nevada City Rotary Annual Fair Picnic

Join us Thursday August 4 at 5:30pm for our Annual Pre-Fair Family Picnic in front of our booth on Treat Street.  Tom Coleman is providing Pulled Pork BBQ and shredded chicken sandwiches. Rotarians bring a salad or a veggie dish to share and your choice of beverage. Competition for best table decoration!  This year's Fair Theme is Kick it Up. Our Fair picnic is always lots of fun.  Families are invited.  Meet our RYLA students.
