Dear Rotarians and Friends,
This Week MOVED to Wednesday - Area 4 Speech Contest
12 noon Grass Valley Methodist Church, 236 S Church St, Grass Valley
Sunday March 15 Hungry Games!!!
Miners Foundry Cultural Center
Setup starts at 10am
Club members on site at 4pm
Party begins at 5pm ends at 8pm
Does anyone else feel like this week has been crazy and it’s only Tuesday? Please remember that our regular Rotary meeting is tomorrow (Wednesday) at noon at the Grass Valley Methodist Church. It is our area-wide Speech Contest and I can promise you won’t be disappointed by the contestants. We all agreed we had great speakers at the Club level and now we’ll hear from the winners from the other four clubs. The winner of tomorrow’s contest will be heading to Reno for the finals at our annual convention (RALLYE this year). Since we’ve moved the regular meeting, there will be NO regular club meeting on Thursday. So, if you show up at The Station at the Northern Queen (Trolley Junction) you’ll be dining alone (or with others who didn’t read the Rotario).
Hungry Games II - Let the Fun Begin!
The Hungry Games are only a few days away and as of this writing, we are full steam ahead. The team has been monitoring updates from the CDC, State and County Environmental Health and we are following their guidelines. Robin and Cathy attended the Board of Supervisors meeting this morning (Tuesday) where Dr. Ken Cuttler, Nevada County Health Officer, and Jill Blake, Public Health Director, gave a thorough briefing on what is happening here in Nevada County. Chris Newsom listened in at home and shared her thoughts with us after the meeting. We are also in communication with Miners Foundry who has implemented stringent cleaning processes and will be providing sanitizer stations for our event as well as other scheduled events. They have posted signs on their entrances requesting anyone who is ill not to enter. This is a policy we endorse fully and will honor on Sunday.
The committee held an emergency meeting this afternoon and after a lot of discussion and careful consideration, decided to proceed as planned. We will stay in close contact with the County and, since this is an ever-evolving situation, we will inform you all of any updates, cancellations or whatever, should things change. In the meantime, please take care of yourselves, use the precautions that have been recommended and stay home if you are not feeling well. We’re all in this together and we need to set good examples for our fellow Nevada Countians. We will be sending a special Rotario out with more information as it becomes available.
In addition to great food from The Ham Stand with Nevada City and Szabo wine pairings, we will have several special “live” auction items including a 10-day stay in Chris and Christina Geyer’s wonderful casita in Los Barriles, Mexico. an airplane flight over beautiful Nevada County, and a special underground tour for 10 of the Sixteen to One Mine - the last working hard rock mine in this area. In addition to these fabulous items there will be a silent auction and an opportunity to dance the night away to the sounds of Sgt. Funky. The grand finale will be the drawing for the $1,200 Winner Takes All Raffle for twelve $100.00 certificates to top local restaurants. You won’t want to miss it and neither will your friends so make sure you pick up some tickets from Robin and sell, sell, sell. Please remind people -- You do not have to be present to win the Raffle! Have money / checks in hand? You can give monies collected thus far along with Raffle stubs to PE Tom at the Speech Contest tomorrow - Wednesday.
Our last Hungry Games Planning meeting is Thursday at 4pm at Michael Young's home, 333 Clay Street, Nevada CIty. You are welcome to join us for final planning details.
