Member Appreciation Day!
Quote for the Day:
"What you think of as an impossible dream might be reasonable if you thought differently."
Notes From Last Meeting
PDG Dave Denney demonstrated his leadership gifts by conducting an exemplary meeting last week. He is also known as pP Dave and shared some of the highlights of his presidency and when he was governor of District 5190. Included in his remarks was his 1985 induction into Rotary when the late Gene Arbaugh was president. Two years later he was president of the Nevada City Club which met at the Coach House at the time. He stated that there was a net gain of five members during his year when Rotary grew internationally more during than any other time. It was also the year of the 49er fire and Dave shared how the community worked together to rebuild and support those affected. It was also at one of his meetings that the Nevada County campus of Sierra College was announced. Ask Dave how he was nearly drowned at his demotion! Maybe Larry Undercoffer can explain.... PDG Dave's loyalty to Rotary was demonstrated at the end of the meeting when he put his right hand over his heart during the reciting of the Four Way Test! What a guy!
While having lunch, we watched a video taken at the Mardi Gras Carnivale! by The Union newspaper as a part if their weekly "Word on the Street" series. Many Rotarians, including DG Woody and First Lady Kim were interviewed by Union staffer Rob Lambert. Following the video, Dave Schmall, Publisher of The Union, gave us a brief personal history sharing that he has served in many capacities in the newspaper business throughout the country.
Dave Schmall explained The Union's core values which includes eight points of service and responsibility and the changes the paper is making to keep current in this digital world. Dave ended his presentation with, "Let's unite our community rather than divide and together we will accomplish so much more".
Gil Domingues and Janis Aydelott were our guests for the last time. Both will be inducted at our meeting this week.
PEN Robin Milam reminded members that a theatre night has been scheduled along with the Penn Valley Club to attend Off Broadstreet's current production, "Forever Something Green" on Friday, March 29. Anyone interested on attending should contact Robin or Ellen Davis ASAP.
Robin also reminded members that on June 15 the Nevada City Club will be holding an upscale "treasure" sale in conjunction with the Nevada City Farmers Market and Bike Race Weekend. Watch for details on how you can be involved. This is a club fund raiser. Members are asked to start collecting items to sale at the event.
On April 23 PEN Robin, pP Nancy Kemp and former member Pete Brost will hike the new Noel Carter Trail to spec it out in preparation for dedication ceremony slated for May. Anyone interested in joining the hikers should contact Robin or Nancy
PP Kim Stewart announced that she and her husband Mike will be celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary with a renewal of their vows this summer. When Kim announced she was getting married this summer, we all thought that she had been living in sin all these years. What a relief when she declared that it was a renewal, not a first time event!
Glen Foley was pleased to announce that he is now on staff at KVMR as their sales representative. Congratulations, Glen now you can walk to Rotary instead of having to drive. Best wishes for success in the new job!
Bob Buhlis won the raffle last week, but not the card draw.
District Conference in May
For those of you who are considering whether to "Go where no Conference has gone before", you can view an announcement of Pre-Conference activities that you'll not want to miss!!!
And it's time to sign up for the infamous District golf tournament or the challenging clay shoot. Both should be a wonderful opportunity of fellowship, fun, and yes, a bit of competition.
Bring in that jar of spare change and contribute it to the Foundation. We should try to reach $6,000 by March 31, and we are only a little over half way there. Remember, a $500 check will be matched by points and a Paul Harris! (Hey Hensley, $499 more and you have a Paul Harris!) Bring those check books and credit cards to the next few meeting so we will be sure to meet our goals!
Lunch rates are $14 and $7 for non eaters, effective March 7, 2013
If you have a camera and can snap a few photos at a club meeting or event please email them to email@example.com for inclusion into the Rotario or Club website. Much appreciated.
