Rotario - October 20, 2016

Dear Rotarians and Friends,

Welcome to our latest Rotario newsletter. Once again it is a pleasure keeping you informed of our club activities in the coming weeks.

This Week's Evening "Mixer" Meeting - Membership Appreciation Night

We sent out an invitation to all of our members, especially our Rule of 85 members, whom we don't see too often. We hope to have each member take a minute to explain when they joined our Rotary club and what is one of their favorite Rotary moments while being in our club. Time permitting, we will also have a bit of a trivia contest that will include questions that are Rotary-related, as well as questions that are not Rotary- related. And there will be prizes, or should I say rewards. We hope this will be a fun evening for everyone who attends.  ( Speaking of "fun", can you see who is in the "bubble" ? )

Welcoming New Members

We are delighted to welcome Stacy Drake (formerly Butler) back to Nevada City Rotary and will be inducting her this week.  The Board has also approved the proposal of Trisha Dellis, Superientendent of Nevada City School District for membership. If no objections are raised by Club members within the next week, we will look to induct Trisha in the next few weeks.  Trisha has attended at least four meetings.  In a very heartwarming opening seeing Trisha among us, last week's speaker Anita Bagley acknowledged Trisha has a valued mentor and role model for her as an educator.

Last Week's Meeting - Anita Bagwell – Director, Western Sierra YouthBuild Center

Anita brought a nice PowerPoint presentation to help describe what some of the efforts are at Sierra Youthbuild Center. Her organization is really doing quite a job with with youths that may have gotten in trouble with the law and need some help getting back into society as well as completing their high school education. Anita also talked about the "small housing" project which is designed to provide small and economical living quarters for some of the homeless in our county. The efforts that Anita and her team are doing were quite a pleasant surprise to many of our members. It was also obvious that Anita is extremely enthusiastic about her work and the results they are getting from their target audience. We look forward to seeing Anita again.  Since Anita is such a high-energy person, it was not easy to slow her down long enough to pose for a picture with President Walt, but as you can see, mission accomplished.
