Last Week - Tax Strategies and Creative Ways to Raise $ for Nevada City Foundation!
Many thanks to our Nevada City Rotary Foundation Board for their informative presentation last week about our foundation’s history, current status and where we can go from here and how you can help. While John and Nathan along with Foundation President Nicole dealt with the nuts and bolts of foundation operations board member Carolyn Inglis walked us through the most painless way to give to the foundation by showing us how to sign up for Amazon Smile and direct a contribution from Amazon to our foundation. That contribution will be a percentage of every purchase you make through Amazon with no increased cost to you. Try this link if you haven’t signed up yet. https://blog.aboutamazon.com/community/how-to-sign-up-for-amazonsmile
Do you shop SPD Market? You can also signup for eScript and have a portion of your purchases go to our Club! Like AmazonSmile, a contribution is made to our Club Foundation with every purchase you make with NO ADDITIONAL cost to you. A BIG THANK YOU to SPD Market for so generously participating in this program.
This Week - Valentines Day and Hungry Games
This week’s lunch meeting is Valentines Day so please bring your sweetheart to lunch to celebrate the day with them and a few of your best friends. There will also be a presentation by our fearless Hungry Games leader Michael on where we are, what we still need to do and how you can help make this inaugural fundraiser for next year’s budget a success.
A reminder to all, if you have sold any raffle tickets or entry tickets for The Hungry Games event please bring the completed ticket stubs and money received to the meeting and hopefully check out some more tickets. Questions on selling tickets? Visit Hungry Games ticketing instructions.
And a reminder to the Hungry Games committee, there will be a committee meeting at 11:00 o’clock ahead of our regular club meeting.

Speaking of the Advocate, we have royalty in our Club! Congrats to Stacy Drake ~ Queen of this year's Mardi Gras Pararde along with King Dave Robinson (and fellow 49er Rotarian). The parade begins on Broad St, Nevada City at 2pm this Sunday February 17.
January Rotarian of the Month - Ken Ching
Congratulations to Ken for being named the Rotarian Of The Month for his continued dedication to showing up early to every meeting to set up and prepare the room for our meeting and then staying after to put it all away. Ken has also turned up at every workday opportunity the club has offered to lend a hand and support our community efforts to enrich the lives of everyone in our community. I am most grateful to have joined a Rotary Club that has Ken in it.
CORRECTION! 850 not 350 Bulbs added to Penzance Park!!!
Head beautification gardener Cathy corrected us last week in that we had GROSSLY understated the planted bulp count. We had great fun planting another 850 bulbs in Penzance Park ... that is 500 more that the stated 350! We will be dancing through daffodils, hyacinths, and crocuses soon!!!
Watch this space for flowers popping out all over Penzance Park!

Los Barriles is fast approaching!
Nevada City Rotary is finalizing plans for our fourth trip to Los Barriles with 15 Rotarians and guests! What a great trip. Again we will partner with our Los Barriles Twin Club on a very special project. See Carolyn Feuille if you are interested in going but have not signed up yet!
Project focus: This year's team is going to a number of schools on Friday and Saturday to do vision and wellness screenings in partnership with East Cape Community Vision Center in Los Barriles. This will enable East Cape Community Vision Center's medical staff to prescribe and fabricate eye glasses with corrective lenses.
For fun: Work includes play too! Chris and Christine Geyer will again host a welcome dinner for all participants; on Sunday go to the beach/swim, outings in off-road vehicles/ATV’s, local tourism, shopping, and getting to know your counterparts in the Los Barriles club
Dates: March 21 travel day, March 22-23 work days at the Vision Center, March 24 R & R day with explorations, shopping, the beach, etc. Return home March 25 or 26 (return in time to participate in the Area music contest March 27).
Want to support this project? Whether you are traveling with the group or not, if you would like to make your own monetary contribution to the project, please give your check to Nicole and make it out to: The Rotary Club of Nevada City Foundation.
Girls Who Code at Seven Hills
Girls Who Code program continues into the new year. The girls love our healthy snacks. Please signup with Nancy Kemp to serve as host and/or bring healthy snacks a week or more for Girls Who Code participants. If you haven’t done it before, Nancy has great instructions on what to serve. It is another incredible opportunity to become involved and participate with the youth in our community.
