Dear Rotarians and Friends,
Join us this Week on Zoom

Miscellaneous Ramblings:
This is one of those disconnected weeks where there doesn’t seem to be any one thing that demands attention. So I am going to ramble about a bit, looking at some of the things that are popping up here and there.
After filling the bathtub, checking to be sure all our batteries, iPads, phones, and flashlights were charged, and generally preparing for yet another PG&E PSPS, we heard Sunday morning that the weather forecast had improved enough that much of our local area would not lose power! Yay! And we definitely commiserate with all those among us who did have their power turned off. Hopefully everybody has had their power restored by now.
Nevada County Drive Thru Flu Shot Clinic - October 6
John and Susie are continuing their efforts to coordinate with the Nevada County Health Department in support of the Drive-Through Flu Shot Clinic next week. I plan to be there serving our community, and I’m sure I will see many of you there.
See our special Rotario on the Nevada County Drive Thru Flu Shot Clinic for volunteer opportunities on site the day of the clinic or sewing masks for free giveaway.
Then contact Susie Monary-Wilson (monarywilson@msn.com(link sends e-mail)) or John Wilson (spruce_2@yahoo.com(link sends e-mail) or by calling either one at 530-470-9272 if you can help out with this service project, and let us know what time frame and activity you are interested in.
CHIRP ~ to preserve, protect and perpetuate Nisenan Culture
Have any of you noticed a large number of acorns falling from the oak trees this year? We definitely have in our neighborhood, and I plan to ask our guest speaker for this week’s program what significance the Nisenan place in this phenomenon.
Which leads me to this week's program and guest speaker. We will hear from Shelley Covert Spokesperson for the California Heritage: Indigenous Research Project (CHIRP).
Shelly sits on the Nisenan Tribal Council and is community outreach liaison. She is also the Executive Director of the non-profit, C.H.I.R.P. (the California Heritage: Indigenous Research Project), whose mission is to preserve, protect and perpetuate Nisenan Culture.
The Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan Tribal members are the direct, lineal descendants of the original indigenous people who were here before the Gold Rush. Their homelands lay within the Bear and Yuba River watersheds and all Tribal members remain in their ancestral homelands today. The Nevada City Rancheria was terminated in 1964 and their reservation was sold. The Tribe has started a campaign for Federal restoration, and they could use your support!

Join us for an enriching program with the Nevada City Rancheria about the history of this place we call home and their vision for their ancestral homelands.
Around our Area
The Rotary Club of Grass Valley is putting on a Halloween Trick or Tri-Tip Drive Through Dinner - looks like fun and good food! Visit GrassValleyRotary.org or contact a member of the Club for more details and tickets.
November is Foundation Month
Our Area 4 is still developing plans for a Foundation Dinner or virtual alternative. In the meanwhile we just heard, Areas 8 and 9 are joining forces to present a Virtual Foundation Celebration with a Virtual Happy Hour, and Key Note address from Polio Plus Chair John Germ. Looks like another creative way to get together to celebrate all the Rotarians who have done so much to support The Rotary Foundation. Watch for details on what our own Area 4 is planning in the coming weeks.

The LLA sessions are recorded and can be viewed later if you are not able to participate in the live events. This is just a sampling of what is available to all of us. With Leadership Learning Assembly, the District is highlighting and expanding key resources. Learn more at Leadership Learning Assembly.
Your Happy/Sad Shares make a difference!
Your Happy/Sad shares give us glimpses of what is going on in your life beyond Rotary. They are special moments together especially since so much of our time is on Zoom. Your associated "bucks" provide a base for us to continue our special services to our community and beyond. Thanks for sharing you!
Stay connected and informed
Robin monitors our news@ncrotary.org email. You can direct questions to that email or to me. As we learn more and to stay in touch, we will send out regular or more frequent Rotarios.
