Staying Connected - September 17 Social

Dear Rotarians and Friends,

Join us this Week on Zoom

Thursday September 17 5:30pm Social
Rotary International Project Fairs with Jon Gresley, Truckee Rotary

Through the smoke...

We have been fortunate in Nevada County the past couple of weeks that we have not felt the threat of wildfire burning close enough to be a danger requiring evacuation. Unfortunately for Paul and Sonja Boch, they evacuated their home in Oroville when the North Complex Fire approached within four miles of their house. The heroic firefighters have kept the fire from burning into Oroville, and Paul and Sonja were able to return home last Friday evening. The southwest border of the North Complex is on the outskirts of Oroville. Paul says they are dealing with a lot of smoke as we are here. He was happy to see stars last night as smoke cleared some. We hope everyone is able to lay low, be safe and stay healthy.

Rotary International Project Job Fairs with Jon Gresley

For our program this week, we will hear from Jon Gresley from Rotary Club of Truckee. Rotary hosts project fairs around the world where Rotarians gather to be inspired and collaborate with global project partners. Since 2000, Jon has attended twenty project fairs, sixteen in Central American and four in Colombia. Jon will tell us about Project Fairs, where Rotarians come together to discover new opportunities for service and partnership.

To read Jon's article on Project Fairs and other information on International Service, visit the District 5190 International Service webpage - https://district5190.org/page/avenues-of-service-international-service

Currently, two virtual fairs are scheduled in West Africa and Ecuador.

Two live fairs are planned for: Panama City January. 28-30 and Medellin,Colombia February 5-7.  Both will probably change to virtual.  Please see Carolyn Feuille and Lynda Guthrie for more details and if you are interested in participating in a project fair.

Community Service - Save the date of October 6

Save the date of October 6, when the Nevada County Public Health will hold a free drive-thru flu shot clinic at Twin Cities Church. (https://yubanet.com/regional/save-the-date-for-our-free-drive-thru-flu-shot-clinic-october-6th/)  John and Susie are coordinating with NC Public Health and Alexis of Mask Warriors to determine whether we can do another mask give-away in conjunction with the flu-shot clinic and how we could support the clinic with volunteers.  More to come on this service opportunity as details are finalized.
