Dear Rotarians and Friends,
Join us this Week on Zoom:
Thursday September 3 Social at 5:30pm
Three Forks Bakery and Brewing Co. with Brewer Dave Cowie
Quiet Rotarian and Heart of Service Awards and Paul Harris Fellows awarded
After a delightful program with Peggy Wright of Treats Ice Cream, Nevada City Rotary converged at Treats on Friday to celebrate Cathy and John with their Heart of Service and Quiet Rotarian awards and to present Cathy with her PHF+8, Chris with her PHF+2 and Tom with his PHF+1 pins.
A fun treat on the streets of Nevada City! Thanks to all who spontaneously showed up after a brief discussion in our Zoom Club meeting call.
This Week's Social: Three Forks Bakery and Brewing - Davie Cowie, Brewer
Co-Founder and beer master extraordinaire of Three Forks Bakery and Brewing, Dave Cowie will be our guest speaker this week. Dave will share his passion for traditional styles and balanced beers that is evident in the beer brewed at Three Forks. Join us and learn about his fastidious attention to detail during the entire brew process – from recipe formulation, sanitation, and technique all the way to final product evaluation that is obvious in every finished pint Three Forks serves. This will be a fun evening learning more about the brews that stand on their own AND go so well with the pizzas and other delectables of Three Forks Bakery and Brewing, Co.
Brewer Dave Cowie in the heart of his Three Forks Brewery!
Community Service Opportunity
In past years, our Rotary Club has supported SYRCL with their River Clean-up Day to help keep our beautiful beaches, camp sites and trails pristine, but this year, the COVID pandemic requires a completely new approach. Keeping volunteers and the community safe from the spread of COVID-19 is the number one concern. Therefore, rather than one day of fun, this year’s cleanup will be spread across 12-days from September 16-27th. 2020. We will be adhering to social distancing guidelines with this cleanup model, protecting ourselves while we protect the Yuba River.
Volunteers can register online for the cleanup, choose your cleanup site and choose a time to pick up trash between September 16-27th. Volunteers will be spread across 16+ sites over 12-days to minimize contact with visitors and volunteers. Only 5-10 volunteers are allowed per cleanup site each shift. We need your help this year to bring your own garbage bags, masks and gloves to your cleanup spot. Please click on the link below to learn more about this program and sign up. Remember to wear your "Rotarians at work" t-shirt! We encourage you to participate with Club members on a date and location that works for you. For more details, visit Yubarivercleanup.org
Thank you Susie!
By our members in action!
PDG Doug McDonald and the District Membership team hosted an engaging Membership Seminar that is now online for those of you who missed it. The Membership team triggered creative new ideas for attracting and retaining members as well as new approaches for starting new Clubs. Visit District 5190 Membership Webinar on YouTube to view.
Doug also highlights our newest district podcast, available at https://district5190.org/page/district-5190-podcast. The latest podcast is all about why we are Rotarians, with interviews from new and long-time Rotarians and new Rotary leaders. We think you'll enjoy and be inspired by it.
Earlier in August District International Committee Chair, and our Club Chair for International Service Carolyn Feuille co-hosted an International Service - Opportunities for Worldwide Partnering Seminar with District Grants Chair Ramona Delmar.
