Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship
and ensuring the effective functioning of the club.
Meeting weekly helps members keep in touch with
each other as well as with the ongoing club projects. Nonetheless,
frequent complementary activities are planned each year to strengthen
the club, including a holiday party, president demotion party,
and several fundraisers.
One of the most exciting fundraisers is the Annual
Radio Auction. Members of the club collect items and services
donated from local organizations to auction off. The local radio
station, KNCO 830AM,
broadcasts the five-hour event on a Saturday, while community
listeners call in to place their bids. Last year's auction was
a tremendous success with over $24,000 in proceeds. Our theme
this year is "Focus on Youth", so 100% of the proceeds
from the auction will be used to support key educational and leadership
development activities for youth in our community, including several
college scholarships.
Another fundraiser is the Nevada City Rotary
Food Booth at the Nevada
County Fair. Our club built the fairbooth in the early eighties
originally selling Jalapeno Poppers. After several menu changes,
we now serve pulled-pork sandwiches as well as BBQ beef sandwiches.
There is no other event in our Club that brings members closer
together. It is a social event with a fundraising twist.
