Visit Celebration of Life for John Taylor for more details.

John joined our Rotary Club in 1982 with the Classification County Agriculture. Ag and the Fair were passions that John shared with Nevada City Rotary.  For years during Fair week, John came in early every morning to get the food in our Treat Street booth cooking for the day. Last year he declared it would be his last to do the early morning food prep and he trained others to handle the set up details.

John Taylor Memorial Junior Livestock Auction Scholarship

So much of what he did was for our young people. Each year during the Sunday morning Junior Livestock Auction, John purchased a lamb or goat on behalf of Nevada City Rotary to support the youth.

The Nevada City Rotary Board passed a motion at its meeting June 16 to continue John Taylor's legacy of buying an animal at the Junior Livestock Auction during the Nevada County Fair. Young ag students raise an animal during the year for market at Fair Week. The monies from the sale of their animals support the youth in their continued animal husbandry development as well as fund continued education. Friends and fellow Rotarians are invited to join Vocational Chair Nicole Dillard and Robin during the very special bidding on Sunday morning at this year's Fair.

Among Fair management, John could always be counted on "including shoveling manure during the Fair." He is a member of the Nevada County Fair's Hall of Fair and a past Director.

Marty Coleman-Hunt, ED Bear Yuba Land Trust, acknowledged, "John’s work in our community touched countless people as he was deeply involved with many civic and non-profit groups: The North Star House, the fairgrounds, Nevada City Rotary, the Nevada County Resource Conservation District (RCD) and many ag groups, Alta Sierra, the Salter Committee for the Benefit of Animals, etc.  John certainly was instrumental with the Land Trust for more than a decade, several times as president and as chair of our Lands Committee.  John was also a dear friend of mine. We worked very closely for many years conserving thousands of acres of land -- most of it in agriculture, his lifelong passion, and in distributing grants to many animal welfare organizations."

We will remember John as a great friend to so many who enjoyed his hugs, his laughter and his wisdom.

Marty and Peggy Levine are planning a memorial with Susan Taylor, probably in a month at the North Star House.
