Rotario -July 1, 2015

Club News

Dear Rotarians and Friends,

Welcome to the new Rotary year! I'm excited to serve with you as President, and look forward to opportunities for putting Service Above Self, and having fun in the process. I had this newsletter all prepared a moment ago, and then it disappeared. I don't know what key I mistakenly stroked, but I'm going to try the "Save" button often. Meantime, here's a redacted overview of key upcoming events:

Thursday, July 2, 5:30 pm Mixer, featuring Cathy Whittlesey, Executive Director of the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce. Cathy will review the history of July 4 celebrations in Nevada City, including highlights, lowlights, and competition with Grass Valley. We'll also raise a toast to event in history that has made such a difference for us all.

Saturday, July 4, Rotarians promote the Destructon Derby during the GV Fourth of July Parade. Line up at 10 am, enjoy the commaraderie, and help raise funds!

Thursday, July 9, 12:15 pm: Better Than Getting $100! With other club Presidents visiting and me wanting to make a positive start, we will preview events of the coming year, and then recount just how valuable Rotary is, even better than getting $100 for the hour. Leadership training, an ethics boost, professional networking, edifying programs, and the model we provide for our children and grandchildren make Rotary one of the best ways we can make a difference with our lives.

July Rotary Socials. One of the greatest benefits, and joys, of Rotary is the fellowship we share and the friendships we gain. Often, an hour at lunch does not provide enough time. So I'm going to organize a handful of social events simply to get to know one another better, and build esprit d'corps. Look for the invitation coming soon.
