Rotario ~ June 18, 2015

Club News

Dear Rotarians and Friends,

This Week June 18 ~ Cooks in the Rotary Kitchen

Nevada City Rotary is heating up the ovens. Join us this week for a spicy meeting focusing on  Adventures & Wine ~ Party with A Purpose; our International Open World Project to host a team of entreprenuers from Kazakstan; and this year's Catch the Fair Bug plans for the Fair.  Deliberate planning began months ago and we have lots to share!

Many hands make quick work!  Thank you to all who stayed after last week's meeting to stuff Donor Thank You letters for mailing, plan for our Open World Kazakstan visit and do some pre-Fair training.  Gary, how did you miss the photos after publishing all the letters and donation forms? This photographer missed our star performer!

SAVE THE DATES

July 14 President Dave is hosting our first ever Donor Contact Kickoff Rally at 5:30pm.  We will be sharing more about it on Thursday!!!

August 1 Work Day at the Fair.  Come prepared to scrub our booth on Treat Street.

John Taylor Memorial Junior Livestock Auction Scholarship

The Nevada City Rotary Board passed a motion at its closing meeting tonight to continue John Taylor's legacy of buying an animal at the Junior Livestock Auction during the Nevada County Fair. Young ag students raise an animal during the year for market at Fair Week. The monies from the sell of their animals support the youth in their continued animal husbandry development as well as fund continued education. Friends and fellow Rotarians are invited to join Vocational Chair Nicole Dillard and Robin during the very special bidding on Sunday morning at this year's Fair.

Our hearts go out to John Taylor's family.  In memorium, visit John Taylor.

Hospitality House Dinner

A big thank you to Dona Knapp, Shari Barley, Cheryl Rellstab, Pearce and Mary Ann Boyer for planning, preparing and serving what sounded like a delicious teriyaki chicken and mushroom rice dinner at Hospitality House last week.  Dona, Shari and Cheryl donated the food. Thank you all.

Last Week June 11 ~ League of Women Voters

"Political but Non-Partisan" was the theme of last week's program. MaryJane Ashford Huenergardt and Polly Bacich educated us on the education and advocacy roles of the League of Women Voters of Western Nevada County.  The League of Women Voters focuses on educating the public on political issues through a non-partisan lense.  A difficult balancing role in today's highly partisan climate but a noble one.
